John the Baptist and Jesus: Anyone who doesn't obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God's angry judgment. John 3:36

The Gospel of John presents a very extensive and interesting testimony from John the Baptist about Jesus. The Synoptic Gospels present John the Baptist as the last prophet before the arrival of the Son of Man, but in the Gospel of John, John the Baptist appears as a privileged witness to the Word of God and the light personified or made flesh. And this is so true that the Gospel of John begins with these words: "There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe" John 1:6-7.
The Gospel of John relates that John the Baptist, after affirming this when questioned by priests and Levites sent from Jerusalem, gave another testimony about the divine master when his disciples told him what Jesus was doing.
And so John the Baptist said something more about Jesus: "Anyone who believes in God's Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn't obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God's angry judgment" John 3:36. John the Baptist knew he was not the Messiah and made this clear in his testimony about Jesus, but he also said that Jesus came from the Most High and was above all others. When John the Baptist affirmed that those who believed in Jesus would receive eternal life, he was referring to the fact that Jesus came into the world with the power of the Holy Spirit so that all who loved and followed him would receive the true spiritual life, the contemplative life, through the grace of God.
It must be understood in this context that the doctrine taught by Jesus is also a doctrine of spiritual mysteries, and John the Baptist expressed with eternal life that Jesus came to reveal important knowledge destined to change humanity and save it from the oppression of ignorance. Eternal life is one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith, and, taking words from the Old Testament, this gift consists of perceiving the face of God. John, when speaking about Jesus in his testimony, made it clear that the Lord came to show a new face of God to mankind, a loving face, willing to forgive humanity for its sins through the sacrifice of Jesus. John the Baptist can be said to have been, after Mary, the mother of Jesus, the first believer to understand the messianic nature of the Lord.
