Bienvenidos todos a mi Blog. Hoy luego de mucho tiempo sin escribir quiero compartir con ustedes uno de los logros más importante de mi vida, como lo es la defensa de mi tesis de Grado para Optar al titulo de ingeniero geólogo, en la Universidad de Oriente (UDO). Para la realización de esta tesis de grado duro casi dos años, la cual tuve que realizar varios sacrificios y horas de trabajo, tanto en campo como en oficina. Este proyecto fue de muy vital importancia debido a que a partir de la misma, se procura brindar soluciones a la problemática de la socavación que se podría presentar en los cimientos del puente sobre el río Santa Bárbara ubicado en la calle 3 entre los sectores Las Flores y Perú Viejo 1, Ciudad Bolívar, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela: y por qué pueden ocurrir inconvenientes o catástrofes que irían desde la incomunicación entre sectores, hasta la pérdida de vidas por el colapso de la infraestructura. El puente en estudio es parte primordial del sector Las Flores en el punto en que la misma, pasa sobre el accidente geográfico producido por el río Santa Bárbara; ésta vialidad, es muy transitada por vehículos y peatones, y permite la comunicación entre el sector Las Flores y el sector Perú Viejo 1.

Welcome, everyone, to my blog. Today, after a long time without writing, I would like to share with you one of the most important achievements of my life, as it is the defense of my thesis for the Engineering Geology degree at the Universidad de Oriente (UDO). For the realization of this thesis, it took almost two years, which I had to make several sacrifices and work hours, both in the field and in the office. This project was of very vital importance because it seeks to provide solutions to the problem of the scourge that could occur in the foundations of the bridge over the Santa Barbara River located on 3rd Street between the sectors of Las Flores and Perú Viejo 1, Ciudad Bolívar, Bolivar State, Venezuela: and why inconveniences or catastrophes could occur that would range from the lack of communication between sectors, to the loss of lives due to the collapse of the infrastructure. The bridge under study is a fundamental part of the Las Flores sector at the point where it passes over the geographical accident produced by the Santa Barbara River; this road is very much travelled by vehicles and pedestrians, and allows communication between the Las Flores sector and the Peru Viejo 1 sector.

RESUMEN DE LA INVESTIGACIÓN // RESEARCH BRIEF

El presente trabajo de grado tiene como propósito conocer las condiciones de socavación estimadas de las fundaciones del puente Las Flores ubicado en la calle 3 sobre el río Santa Bárbara, el cual es de suma importancia dentro del municipio, ya que permite la comunicación entre 2 (dos) sectores bastante frecuentadas de la ciudad tal como son Agua Salada y Perú Viejo, y a su vez, el mismo, protege el paso del accidente geográfico o depresión del relieve causado por el río Santa Bárbara. La finalidad de éste trabajo de grado, es cuantificar la posible socavación que pudiese producirse en los cimientos del puente ante la ocurrencia de avenidas significativas, y por otro lado plantear las medidas apropiadas para controlar éste fenómeno en caso de ser necesario. La investigación será de tipo descriptiva hasta sus objetivos de cuantificar la socavación y en caso de ser necesario la generación de medidas de control de la socavación será de tipo proyectiva. Se aplicará un diseño de campo y documental. Para el alcance de los objetivos específicos se caracterizarán los sedimentos del lecho en la zona del puente, se describirán las condiciones del flujo y las características morfométricas de la cuenca, Se determinarán los caudales de tránsito para períodos de retorno de 25 años y finalmente se determinará la potencial socavación que podría producirse en los cimientos del puente. Una vez aplicada esta metodología, se encontró que los suelos del lecho se corresponden con arenas mal gradadas (SP) con un d50 promedio de 0.30 mm, así mismo se determinó que la cuenca aportadora de avenidas tiene un área de 512 ha y produciría un caudal de 83.02 m3/s para un período de retorno de 25 años. La socavación que se produciría en los cimientos estarán en el orden 0.06 m y 0.8 m estimada por los criterios y modelos matemáticos de Maza Sánchez, y de Froehlich. Como medida de control de la socavación se propone la utilización gaviones colocados perimetralmente en torno a los sistemas de pilas del puente sobre el río Santa Bárbara.

The present work of degree has as purpose to know the estimated conditions of sapping of the foundations of the bridge The Flowers located in the street 3 on the river Santa Barbara, which is of extreme importance within the municipality, since it allows the communication between 2 (two) quite frequented sectors of the city as they are Salt Water and Old Peru, and as well, the same one, protects the passage of the geographic accident or depression of the relief caused by the river Santa Barbara. The purpose of this study is to quantify the possible scour that could occur in the foundations of the bridge in the event of significant flooding, and to propose appropriate measures to control this phenomenon if necessary. The research will be descriptive until its objectives of quantifying the scour and if necessary the generation of measures to control the scour will be projective. A field and documentary design will be applied. For the achievement of the specific objectives, the bed sediments in the bridge area will be characterized, the flow conditions and morphometric characteristics of the basin will be described, the transit flows for 25-year return periods will be determined and finally the potential scour that could occur in the bridge foundations will be determined. Once this methodology was applied, it was found that the bed soils correspond to poorly graded sands (SP) with an average d50 of 0.30 mm. It was also determined that the floodplain basin has an area of 512 ha and would produce a flow of 83.02 m3/s for a 25-year return period. The scour that would occur in the foundations will be in the order of 0.06 m and 0.8 m estimated by the criteria and mathematical models of Maza Sanchez, and Froehlich. As a control measure of the scour, it is proposed to use gabions placed around the perimeter of the bridge's pile systems on the Santa Barbara River.

Finalmente y luego de casi una hora de exposición y la ronda de pregunta la tesis fue aprobada por cada uno de los jurados principales, integrados por los profesores Dafnis Echeverría (Tutor académico), Adriana Garban y Beatriz Echeverría.
