Dimitri Payet Undoes France to the World Cup
French midfielder Dimitri Payet's hopes of appearing at the 2018 World Cup in Russia next month were hit hard on Thursday morning when the Marseille captain had to leave the field in the Europa League final with a thigh injury suspected.
Payet's fitness condition is doubtful to appear in the final against Atletico Madrid after missing when his side drew 3-3 at Guingamp's headquarters on Friday but were declared fit to play the day before the top game in Lyon.
Payet cried as he left the field in the 32nd minute to be replaced Maxime Lopez.
The former West Ham midfielder is a key figure at France's pace to the 2016 European Cup final, although he has not appeared for his national team since the 2-1 victory over Belarus on October 10.
