Shohei Ohtani to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
One of the most anticipated decisions for the Major League Baseball offseason was to where Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese star pitcher, would land. After playing such great baseball in Japan, the 23 year old RHP decided he wanted to step up his game and play the sport in the United States.
After word got out, many baseball networks, fans, analysts, and players expressed their thoughts on what team Ohtani would sign with, with such high-profile teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees leading the way. Earlier today, it was decided that Ohtani would sign with a team in Los Angeles, but in fact, it would not be the Dodgers, but the Angels.

Why would Ohtani choose to go to the Angels? Ohthani and his agent have stated that the choice was made because Ohtani believed that the Anaheim Angels will give him the best opportunity to reach the height of his career. This choice in some cases is an odd one. Ohtani, who in Japan was an excellent pitcher as well as batter, has stated that he would like to hit on days when he is not pitching. Because this is the case, choosing an AL team is a little weird, due to the Designated Hitter substitution for hitters in the batting lineup, unlike the NL where the pitchers bat themselves. Maybe Ohtani will hit for himself or maybe he will accept the fact that there may be a DH in the batting lineup, either way, I hope Ohtani is able to perform his best in the United States.
