College Football Weekend Wrap Up: Week 2
The second actual college football Saturday just happened yesterday and now it is time for the biggest takeaways, disappointments, and results. so lets get into it
Disappointments
First lets start with the teams, players and coaches who did not perform nearly how they should have.
Stanford
#14 Stanford got their teeth kicked in by #6 USC on Saturday. Stanford got outplayed in every aspect of football in the second half. In the first half the Cardinal did decent and they weren't behind by much at halftime. Stanford completely got dominated by both the Trojan offense who scored 4 touchdowns in the second half and the Trojan Defense who only allowed Stanford one touchdown in the 4th quarter. Stanford was projected to win this game but now we see who the real Stanford and USC are. The final score was 42 - 24, USC wins by a big margin. Stanford will drop in the rankings probably to about 25 if not I wouldn't be surprised if they completely fell out of the Top 25.
Ohio State
Saturday #2 Ohio State and #5 Oklahoma played for the second top 5 match up this year. This game was a defensive slug fest in the first half with both team only scoring 3 points in the second quarter. Then comes the disappointment from the #2 team in the country, Ohio State scored a touchdown coming right out of halftime. That is all of the touchdowns Ohio State scored and they only got two more field goals. Oklahoma had 4 touchdowns in the second half and was defensively dominant. Oklahoma in the end kicked the crap out Ohio State, 31 - 16 was the final score. Oklahoma will be number 2 I am sure of it, but Ohio State will probably drop out of the top 10.
Nice Surprises
Now to some teams and players who did unexpectedly great
Lamar Jackson and Louisville
Last years Heisman winner and Louisville QB is still absolutely killing it. He is the backbone of the Louisville offense so whenever he plays well his team does well. Against North Carolina Jackson had another Heisman worthy performance. Lamar Jackson had a total of 6 touchdowns and 393 passing yards and 132 rushing yards. This is how he won the Heisman Trophy last year but if he keeps on performing like this he might win it again. Louisville went on the beat North Carolina 47 - 35.
Georgia's Defense
Georgia by no means destroyed Notre Dame but the reason Georgia won was because of its amazing run defense. Georgia completely shut down the run for both Notre Dame's running backs or ND's QB Brandon Wimbush. The Bulldogs held the Irish to 55 rushing yards which killed part of the Irish's offensive scheme. Georgia kept Wimbush under tons of pressure and did cause a couple of fumbles by blindsiding the young QB. Georgia shut down one of the best offenses in the country. Georgia went on to win 20 - 19 against Notre Dame in a game that came down to the 4th quarter.
