As a Jays fan, this was a particularly tough year to watch. After about 70-90 games our season was already over. Being in the AL East has made it difficult, but this year especially, the Yanks and the Sox were on a different level.
I think ownership knew what it was getting in Mark Shapiro: someone who can cut budgets and pretend to stay competitive. The latter is a tougher act in a division like that.
