José Reyes focuses on training as a utility for the Mets.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida. - The veteran Dominican Jose Reyes was presented at the weekend to the Mets ready to resume his role as super utility of New Yorkers and happy, because his dream to continue in the organization with which he grew and consolidated as a stellar was fulfilled .

"To be honest, I was not thinking about that at all," Reyes said of free agency. "I did not want to get too involved in my head, I knew that in the bottom of my heart I wanted to stay here, but I did not want to go crazy either, I hope I can finish my career with this uniform."

The Mets will ask Reyes to practice in the second and third bases, the shortstop and the gardens this season, aware of the versatility offered by an athlete of the characteristics of the young man. Reyes credited an adjustment he made in his swing midway through the season as responsible for hitting .314 / .394 / .518 with six homers in his last 38 games of 2017. Prior to that, Reyes tied for. 220 / .284 / .374 in 107 commitments.

"As a player, those things happen," Reyes said. "I know it was hard for me that first part of the season, but I never gave up, I kept working and trying to improve and I feel that in the second half I did it, I hope it continues like this this year."
