In the first game of their series against South Africa, Australia began with an emphatic win wherein Captain Alyssa Healy displayed her batting skills.
Although there were some initial hesitations concerning Healy’s availability due to illness, she proved her fitness with a brilliant performance scoring vital 46 runs that sealed the win for the hosts. Though Tazmin Brits, the opener for South Africa scored a commendable half-century this did not help set Australia adequate target of 147 runs.
Healy’s innings was replete with delectable stroke making, including audacious shots such as an acrobatic flick over midwicket for four off Marizanne Kapp and a majestic six high back over Nonkululeko Mlaba in the head. It was this aggressive streak that formed the basis for Australia’s pursuit.
Playing with Beth Mooney, Healy guided Australia to success as their unbeaten 72 went hand in glove with the aggressive style of play by Hea. The pair which lasted 65 runs and by this time was typified with Mooney’s supreme strokes coupled together aggression of Healy made the win easy for Australia.

In South Africa, the only shining light for Brits was that of a standout performer who anchored an innings with great resolve despite initial issues. After a short while, supported by Sune Luus, Brits’ innings of two sixes and six fours demonstrated her resolve as she endured trying Aussie bowling.
But South Africa still had failed to do so as they could not restrict Australia’s strong batting order. The second T20I will take place in Canberra, where South Africa can seek a recovery before the series continues to Hobart for three more games.
It promises more action as the two sides prepare for a series of T20Is, ODIs and even Test match in what will be an exciting contest over next couple of months.
