Nigeria youngster Osimhen makes Lille switch
The Nigeria international forward Victor Osimhen has joined Lille from Belgian side Charleroi on a five-year deal, the French club announced Thursday. The former U-17 world cup player was also part of the Nigeria squad that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The move is the 20-year-old’s second transfer this summer after Sporting Charleroi permanently signed him from Wolfsburg in June.
The former Sporting Charleroi in-form striker Victor Osimhen is no doubt one of the breakout stars in the Jupiter Pro League this season having scored 20 goals in 36 appearances for Charleroi last season.
His goal scoring form unsurprisingly caught the attention of many European clubs who were reportedly in battle for his signature before the summer transfer window begins. However, he made a decision to sign a five years deal with the French club. The arrival fees costs a whopping 14 million euros ($15.5 million).
Lille managing director Marc Ingla believes that Osimhen attributes like his physique and goal scoring abilities will be for great help to the club immeasurably. Lille finished second to Paris Saint-Germain last season and qualified for the Champions’ League group stage for the first time since 2012-13.
Osimhen seems delighted to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Peter Odemwingie and Vincent Enyeama by joining Lille as his countrymen couldn’t cease to show their excitement on the social media page of the talented young player.
Having spent some time with Wolfsburg and Sporting Charleroi who are modest clubs in Germany, I believe the youngster knows what it takes to break into the first-team of the French club.
