F2 2018 during the summer break. To fill his spare time and at the same time let go of longing, Sean Gelael chose to join the rally championship this weekend.
After going through eight series, F2 will break for a month and start rolling again 25-26 August in Belgium. Therefore the riders use this time to replenish energy and unwind.
Sean is no exception who experienced up and down performance in the first half of the season. Appearing okay in the first four series, the Racing Prema rider then decreases its performance in the next four series.
In order to refresh his mind and body, Sean decided to perform at the national championship rally on the sidelines of his vacation. He and his father Ricardo Gelael who is also a former driver will enliven the Merdeka Sprint Rally which took place at the Paramount Land, Tangerang, Banten circuit this weekend.
Sean will go down in the M1 class using the Mitsubishi Evolution X, while Ricardo will appear in the same class with the Subaru N11. Sean will race with navigator Kusuma Bagya Dendawacana, who is the racing manager of KFC Ayam Jagonya Team Indonesia.
"I joined this championship not just to win the title, but rather to treat the loss of interest in the motorsports community in Indonesia," said Sean, who last raced in the country seven years ago.
"Racing on the rally track is certainly different from the asphalt circuit trajectory. However, each track has a challenge with an exciting racing atmosphere," continued the 21-year rider.
Not inferior to the child, Ricardo also wanted to reminisce as well as spur adrenaline on the rally track with the seasoned racer Chepot Hani Wiano as his navigator.
"My participation is to revive the spirit of motorsports in Indonesia. Hopefully in the future there will be more championships in the country whose level is not only national but also international," said Ricardo, who last race in 2008.
Merdeka Sprint Rally will take place Saturday and Sunday, 11-12 August. Every day the rider will be challenged by two SS, with a total distance of SS 15.2 kilometers. The Paramount Land circuit is all ground surface.
