The Diary Game: Attending My Cultural Day Celebration/ Identifying With My Cultural Background (19/12/2025)

Today, I decided not to go to work but to go and celebrate my rich cultural heritage. The Uyo Local Government Area of which I am a proud citizen was celebrating at the Christmas Unplugged today, here I Christmas village. It was a total display of our rich cultural heritage, the background that has given us the courage to get through things because we always have a base to fall back to.

It is often said that "wherever we go, we shouldn't forget the road that leads us home,". That is so true because those that forgets where they are from are just those standing on the edge and any wind can pull then down even at The slightest. That is why, I went to associate with my culture and identify with my kindreds.

From the beautiful women who were beautifully adorned with their traditional attire to the little children and the men including the traditional rulers. I loved how beautifully dressed everyone appeared today, and myself... I didn't appear bad either.

Additionally, we have 32 local government areas coming to this Christmas village everyday to identify with their culture. The government has really tried in integrating cultural diversity in the modern government and it is what I have always been commending them for.

The display of our pride, the farm produce and the raffia's we make with our hands speaks how innovative through traditionally we are. We the Uyo people have been the beckon of hope to other Ibibio Local Government Areas that sometimes feel the need to get motivated.

The long legged Masquerade is the true representation of our culture on costume. People who do this do not take acrobatic classes for it but yet they make it look so easy. So you see, this is an inborn talent, this is the tradition we were born with, the culture that forms part of us from birth, so it's not just about the tongue but also the diversity of our culture of which we have embraced.

I joined the band group today and also help to mix the sound for them, I guess their sound engineer was still an amateur and sign consistent practice, he will get to master the art of sound mixing. I did that for my Local Government voluntarily.

When I left the event, I went back home to go and have my bath because I was tired. I had my bath and made dinner for me and my daughter. My daughter was quite tired from playing with the kids, walking up and down the event center and all.

When we finished, my daughter quickly went to bed while I on this other hand went to have my medication so that I can sleep well. Happy weekend my friends.
