Motherhood Is Not for the Faint-Hearted.

Hi guys, accept steem greetings from the motherland, Cameroon, and welcome to my blog, where I will share my experience this week as a mother of 3 kids.

This week has reminded me, once again, that motherhood is not for the faint-hearted. If anyone ever doubted the strength it takes to raise children, they should spend just a few days in a home where little ones are battling the seasonal changes especially here in Cameroon during the harmattan transition. The dust, the dryness, the sudden temperature shifts…, they come like uninvited guests, settling into the air and into our routines, disrupting sleep, plans, and peace of mind.

My week felt like a marathon without a finish line. The kids have been down with fever, catarrh, and cough, sometimes one at a time, sometimes all at once. When one child seemed to be doing better, another would start burning up. I have spent nights checking foreheads, measuring temperatures, propping pillows, wiping little noses, soothing stubborn coughs, and whispering prayers under my breath. And although I am exhausted, my body somehow keeps going. That is the invisible superpower of motherhood, strength fueled by love even when everything in you screams for rest.

Harmattan has its own way of testing us, the dryness cracks lips and drains energy. The early morning chill sneaks into the bones, and by noon the heat returns like nothing happened. This transition season demands constant vigilance, hydrating the kids, keeping them warm but not too warm, steaming, giving medications on schedule, and ensuring they eat even when their appetites disappear. It becomes a full-time job on top of all the other full-time jobs motherhood requires.

There were moments this week when frustration crept in. Moments when I felt overwhelmed, stretched thin, and silently asked myself how much more I could take. But even in those moments, motherhood teaches resilience, it teaches patience, it teaches sacrifice in ways no book, class, or advice could ever fully prepare you for. And most importantly, it teaches love, deep, instinctive, unconditional love that shows up even when you feel you have nothing left to give.

But motherhood is also full of small victories that keep us going. The moment when the fever finally breaks. The first genuine smile after a rough night. The sound of a child breathing peacefully after hours of coughing. The relief that fills the room when they say, “…Mummy, I’m feeling better.” These little moments become fuel for the journey.

This week reminded me that we mothers are warriors, silent, steady warriors who donot need armour to stand strong. We fight battles in the middle of the night, wipe tears before they fall, and find strength even in exhaustion. The world may not always see the effort, but the children we nurture feel it deeply.

To every mother going through a rough week, especially during this transition season: you are not alone and know that you are doing your best and stronger than you think. Even on the hardest days, always remember that this journey, though tough, is filled with purpose, love, and the kind of strength that only motherhood can build. Motherhood is not for the faint-hearted. It is for the brave and of course you, mama, are brave 💪💪💪.
