The Diary Game [18/12/2025] // A Day of Duty and Reflection.

Hi guys, compliments of the season to @everyone and welcome to my blog where I share my daily lifestyle content with you all.

I woke up earlier than usual today, before the first cock crowed, knowing that the day would be long and emotionally heavy. As a Cameroonian mother, mornings are never gentle, especially on school days. I quietly slipped out of bed, said a short prayer of gratitude for life, and headed to the kitchen. There was water to boil, breakfast to prepare, and uniforms to iron. The children needed to be washed, fed, and properly dressed before school. Even though I had no plans to go to work today, responsibility still sat firmly on our shoulders as parents. Thankfully, my husband is around and assisted in bathing the kids.

My boss had kindly permitted me to attend the funeral mass of a friend’s mother, so my mind was at ease on that front.

By the time the children were ready and sent off to school, the house was quiet again. I bathed, dressed in my black attire, and prepared myself mentally for the funeral activities. Although the funeral mass was scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Roman Catholic church, the day’s program began much earlier. Corpse removal was fixed for 9:00 AM, and the body was to be laid at her family residence for mourners to pay their last respects.

Attended a friend’s mother funeral.

At the family house, the atmosphere was solemn and deeply emotional. The body lay peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, prayers, and soft murmurs of grief. As I stood among other mourners, I reflected on life, death, and the legacy one leaves behind. Losing a mother is never easy, but there was a quiet strength in the way the family carried themselves.

Mass was about to start

The funeral mass at 1:00 PM was deeply touching. The church was filled to capacity, and the hymns carried both sorrow and hope. During the homily, the priest spoke powerfully about the need to re-examine our lives, to live at peace with one another, and to love sincerely while we still have time. His words pierced my heart. It was a solemn hour, and yet there was a strong sense of grace present. I could truly say the bereaved family was blessed. The kind of favour that surrounded the late Mami showed clearly that she was a mother par excellence.

She died at the ripe age of 84, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. All her ten children are alive and healthy—six boys and four girls. She was also blessed with 33 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. What more can a mother ask from God? Her life was truly fulfilled.

The mass ended with Holy Communion, sealing the moment with prayer and peace. From the church, we moved to a nearby hotel for the reception. Even there, duty followed me as I joined others in arranging tables and chairs so that everything could be set on time. It felt good to serve, even in small ways.

After eating and offering my condolences once more, I left early to return home. There was enough to eat and drink for everyone though many complained of a lack of juice and mostly beer and wine were present on the tables left.

The children needed me and while at home, I met them safely back from school and immediately began preparing their things for the Christmas party coming up the next day. As night fell, I felt tired but fulfilled, grateful for life, family, and the lessons the day had taught me. Until my next diary guys, have a splendid day ahead.
