You Never Truly Value Good Health Until Experience Breakdown.

Hi guys, accept warm Steem greetings from the motherland of Cameroon, and welcome to my blog, where I'm gonna share awareness posts about living a healthy life.

There is a dangerous illusion many of us live with especially within working-class women in my community as they believe that our bodies will always keep up with our ambitions. We wake up early, chase deadlines, juggle online work, offline responsibilities, family, expectations, and somehow convince ourselves that resting can wait. We tell ourselves, “…I’m strong, I can handle it, I will rest later...” Until one day, the body speaks in a language we can no longer ignore.

Lately, I have come face-to-face with that reality. For a long time, I pushed myself beyond limits, I stayed constantly busy, moving from one task to another, determined to make things work. I believed productivity was everything, and I thought being available all the time meant being responsible. I ignored the subtle warnings of fatigue, headaches, exhaustion, sleepless nights, dehydration, and stress. Like many people, I believed I could keep going no matter what.

Then recently, I started experiencing painful nerves in my body. The discomfort became impossible to overlook. Concerned, I spoke to a doctor friend, and after explaining my symptoms, he asked if I had undergone surgery before. I told him yes, and he explained that the nerve pain could be linked to anaesthesia from the surgery.

At first, I was surprised because I had already been advised repeatedly to get enough rest, drink enough water, slow down, and take care of myself. I tried all of that, but the pain persisted. And in those quiet moments of discomfort, I began reflecting deeply on life and health.

The truth is that we rarely appreciate good health until something goes wrong. When the body functions normally, we take it for granted. We assume tomorrow is guaranteed, we postpone medical checkups, we neglect sleep and we skip meals or overwork ourselves because we are chasing money, success, recognition, or survival. We pour everything into building a life while forgetting to protect the one thing that makes living possible, our health.

No amount of money feels meaningful when you are lying awake in pain. No achievement matters when your body is exhausted. No success tastes sweet when your health begins to fail.

Good health is not just about being free from sickness. It is peace of mind, it is strength, it is the ability to wake up and function without pain. It is the freedom to enjoy life, family, work, and purpose which goes with the adage that, “…health is wealth”.

This experience has humbled me deeply as it reminded me that we are human beings, not machines. Rest is not laziness, drinking water is not optional. Slowing down is not weakness and listening to your body is wisdom. Guys, please take care of yourself. Go for that medical checkup, sleep enough, still drink enough water, take breaks if possible, exercise and spend time with people you love.

And most importantly, stop waiting for your body to break down before you start valuing your health. Because when health begins to fail, everything else suddenly becomes secondary.

Today, I am learning to appreciate every pain-free moment, every breath, every opportunity to wake up healthy. And I hope this message reminds someone out there that while we chase dreams and responsibilities, we must never abandon ourselves in the process.

Protect your health while you still have it. Because once it is shaken, you will finally understand what true wealth really means.
