The Leadership Of Moses (15/05/2026)

God is the ultimate leader and He calls every believer to lead others. He calls us to lead others as we follow Him. This is clear from Genesis 1:26. When Israel had a good king it was well with them, when they had a bad one, things went bad. Without a vision people perish. Proverbs 29 18. Every person is a potential leader. Things degenerate at family, church, or organization when there is no leadership. The best means of leaving a lasting legacy is through good leadership. The law of legacy states that true success is measured by succession. Oswald J. Sanders gave the best definition of leadership to mean influence. As a follower of Christ you are called to influence others. Today we are examining the leadership of Moses in three sections. Did he actually influence others?

Firstly, process of leadership preparation: God led Moses into the wilderness to prepare and develop him as a leader. God prepared him not in a day, but over time, not through an event, but with a process. The Lord took 80 years to make Moses ready to lead Israel. No wonder he was humble, humility is quality for every leader. Numbers 12:3, Moses wasn't a natural leader. Nothing shows in the Bible that he attracted or led anyone during the first 40 years of life. Though learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in words and deeds (Acts 7. 22), we have no record of significant accomplishment during first 40 years. His first attempt of exerting influence landed on a murder that led to his fleeing from the country. Others in the bible waited years for God to fulfill His leadership development process. Abraham waited for 25 years for the promised child, Joseph waited about 14 years in prison before ascending to the throne. Paul waited 3 years in Arabia before Damascus he came to the limelight.

Secondly, programme for the people: After the process of setting Israel free, he underwent through some programme. He had a God-given plan and the plan must be executed. The execution includes imparting the vision, going with helpers. Exodus 7:1, There were other helpers as Joshua, Hur and other elders Exodus 24:13: 18:14-26, Part of his programme was constant communication, delegation of duties. Ex. 32:25-29,34 Joshua had a programme and communicated to the people. Jesus communicated His programme to the disciples and the people. Leadership without trouble does not exist.

Thirdly, packages awaiting every leader: Moses who once produced craziness, cowardice confusion and clumsiness now gained calmness. confidence, clarity and competence because he submitted to leadership. With all these he was able to handover to Joshua and things went on well Numbers 27-18. We must have successors. It will not end with us. Once again most leaders are not born, but are made. You don't have to be a 'natural' to become a great leader, you simply need a heart for God and a teachable spirit. Today God is still making leaders and you can be one.
