Why I don’t feel comfortable around overgrown grass near the house
Greeting Steemit Family
There is one thing that always gives me an uncomfortable feeling whenever I pass through some areas in my community. It occurs when tall grasses are allowed to grow freely around the house and on empty land. Some people may see it as something normal, but honestly, I do not feel comfortable around such places.
One thing about overgrown grass is that you can never really know what is hiding inside. In our communities, these places easily become habitats for dangerous animals. Snakes, rats, scorpions, and even harmful insects. There is no way someone can feel comfortable in these environments.
That alone is enough to make many people feel unsafe. Sometimes children play carelessly around these places without knowing the danger nearby. Before anyone notices, a snake bite or insect attack can happen. During the rainy season, it becomes even worse because the grasses grow very fast and create more hiding places for animals.
Another thing I have noticed is that grass close to houses increases mosquitoes. Water usually gets trapped under the grasses and small plants, creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes. In places like ours, where malaria is already common, allowing grass to grow uncontrollably only adds more problems to the community.
There is also the issue of insecurity. Very bushy areas can become hiding spots for thieves, especially at night. Some people may use these isolated areas to hide stolen items or monitor movements around nearby houses. Even walking beside such places at night can make you feel uncomfortable.
Fire outbreaks are another danger people sometimes ignore. During dry seasons, tall dry grass can catch fire very easily. A small careless act like throwing away a cigarette or burning rubbish nearby, can quickly spread fire across the entire area. Before people react, nearby houses, farms, or electric poles may already be affected. I mentioned it in a post last time as a lady struggling to control the fire she lit.
What surprises me most is that many of these places are actually close to houses where people live every day. Sometimes, the owners of the land may not even stay there, so the place remains abandoned for years. As the grass keeps growing, neighbours around are the ones indirectly facing the danger.
Apart from danger, overgrown environments also reduce the beauty of the neighbourhood. A clean and maintained environment always makes a place look more peaceful and welcoming. But when bushes take over empty lands, the area starts looking neglected.
I understand that clearing land regularly costs money and energy in my community. Some people may also be waiting for future building projects before cleaning the place. But even with that, basic maintenance is still important for the safety of everyone living around.
In my communities today, we often focus only on what happens inside our compounds and ignore the surroundings. But the environment around us affects everybody directly or indirectly. Most of the time, we wait for the quarter head to call on a community cleanup.
Personally, whenever I see grass growing too much around houses, I become very uncomfortable. My mind immediately starts thinking about snakes, insects, and hidden animals. Maybe some people are already used to it, but for me, it is something we should pay more attention to before small problems turn into serious situations.
Cheers
