Hello amazing Steem Cameroon family,

I’m so honored to be part of this week’s #mybestdaycrm contest. Thank you @steem-cameroon for giving us the chance to share the moments that make our hearts beat with pride. This week, as I was going through my gallery, I stumbled on photos from my matriculation ceremony, and I couldn’t hold back my tears. That memory lit up my week in the most powerful way.

Why My Matriculation Was My Best Day

For many, a matriculation ceremony might be a simple event. For me, it was a miracle wrapped in black gown and white collar. It was not just a day; it was a declaration that I broke the curse.

In my family, no one had ever gone beyond secondary school. Every dream of university was either buried under poverty or mocked out of existence. My siblings and I grew up hearing things like, “Your family? You people don’t go far.” Many of our friends laughed at us — not just behind our backs, but to our faces.

But I had a plan. I had a covenant with myself, that I would change the narrative.

The Road to That Day

To write my WAEC exam, I sold pure water in the hot sun just to raise money. It was humiliating sometimes especially when classmates passed by, pretending not to see me or whispering things I could hear. But I kept selling. I kept dreaming.

After WAEC, I got a job that paid ₦10,000 per month, barely enough to survive a week. But I told myself, “You’re not just surviving, you’re building.” So I saved. I would often go to bed hungry, just to put aside something small for my admission.

Every time I felt like giving up, I imagined myself wearing that matriculation gown. And on that blessed day, that dream came true.

The Smile That Changed Everything

Seeing myself in that gown brought tears, not just to me but to my mother. She held my face and said, “You did it, my daughter. You’ve taken us further.” That was the moment I knew it wasn’t just my victory, it was our victory as a family. A win for every tear, every hunger, every insult.

I smiled, but inside, I was screaming with joy. That day, I didn’t just enter university,💛
I rewrote my family’s story.

A Reflection from June 23–29

This week, I felt overwhelmed with school challenges. But when I saw those photos again, everything changed. I was reminded that I’ve already conquered bigger mountains. I didn’t come this far to stop now. That’s why this memory became the best part of my week.
