Report of the final match of The People's Cup Tournament, 2025 Edition. [Sunday 4th January, 2026]
It was on Sunday evening, January 4th, 2026, and I was excited to join other officials and guests at the Salvation Army Primary School football field in Ikot Ekpenyong, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The occasion was the final football match of The People's Cup Tournament, 2025 edition, hosted by the generous Engr. Sunday Emmanson.
As we arrived at the venue, the atmosphere was electric. The crowd was buzzing with anticipation, eager to witness the thrilling match between God's Favour FC and God's People FC. The teams took to the field, and the referee blew the whistle, signaling the start of the game.
The match was intense and competitive, with both teams displaying remarkable skill and determination. The crowd cheered and chanted as the players battled for victory. After 90 minutes of play, the score was tied at 1-1, leaving the outcome uncertain.
The tension mounted as the game went into penalty kicks. The crowd held its collective breath as the players took turns kicking the ball. In the end, God's Favour FC emerged victorious, scoring 5 goals against God's People FC's 4. Pandemonium erupted as God's Favour FC celebrated their win.
They were awarded the trophy and a cash prize of N300,000 (approximately 2,788 steem). The jubilation was palpable, with the team and their supporters basking in the glory of their triumph.
The second runner-up received a cash prize of N200,000, while the third-place team took home N100,000. As the prizes were awarded, the crowd applauded Engr. Sunday Emmanson for his kindness and generosity in hosting the tournament.
As I left the venue, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to witness such an exciting event. The tournament was a testament to the power of sports to bring people together and create a sense of community. I was honoured to be a part of it, and looked forward to reporting on more exciting events in the future.
That's all for now from Nigeria. Until next time, stay sports-loving, @kingdouglas reporting.
