CREATIVE WRITING | SPIRITUAL HUNGER
Hello blessed steemains, it's yet another moment for us to look into the scripture and search the mind of God. Throughout this season, I'm dedicated to some bible study and it's been a great blessing to me. I hope by sharing these I would be able to impart some of that blessing on us all. Today I'll be talking about hunger!
When the human body becomes sick, one of the first things viruses and bacteria attack is your appetite. That’s just the physical realm. They fight your appetite because part of the things that make you healthy are the things you eat.
The moment they can make sure you no longer desire to eat anything, they know that their work will prosper more in your body. That’s why they beg sick people to still eat. You'll hear things like “We know you don’t want to eat, but please, try and eat.”
I remember once in a hospital ward where we were going for rounds early in the morning. A woman complained that her son wasn't earring anymore, and her complaint was that this guy could eat a whole house but now he has lost appetite. It was quite funny how a man can drop so fast in what he used to do because of sickness.
In Matthew chapter 5 verse 6, the Bible says, >“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.” Because He knows that hunger — hunger is a natural outcome. The only thing demons can play with is to manipulate what your hunger will be directed towards.
Whether you will be hungry or not is not the discussion. What they can play with is what are you hungry for? So, there is a blessing reserved for those whose hunger is channeled for righteousness; because it’s not natural.
There are people who are hungry for fame. People who are hungry for recognition. People who are hungry for money. There are different things that can manipulate your hunger. But He says there is a blessing for those whose hunger is channeled for righteousness.
He says, “Who is it that wants to follow Me? Let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow.” That is the price to follow Him. That is self-denial.
For hunger for the world to die, hunger for righteousness needs to be fully alive. Without that, there's no way you can follow God.
Hunger is selectable. It can be selective. You will find out there are many days you don’t want to pray. You don’t want to but you must.
Hunger is a blessing. We know a child is healthy by how hungry he is. And Everytime a child is hungry he cries. Therefore the proof of your hunger is a cry for food, which is translated in our context as a cry of prayer. Any praying man is a hungry man.
That’s why the prayer is:
“Lord, fill me with hunger and thirst that I may know You. Fill me with desire. A burning desire.”
