So today being November the 27th started off at a very fast pace. Reason for this being that yesterday while at the company, a fellow labour worker who is my friend, though works in a different department, came around telling me he had a little gig for me!! The job in question was to spread a tipper load of black soil (loamy) within a certain area where grasses are to be planted. Ideally, doing side jobs isn't part of my or any of the company's workers' job description though, but we all know that in life, when opportunity comes up, one must endeavor to make good use of it and in this case, it is what I thought about; making good use of the opportunity.😅

So due to this juicy opportunity, i could barely wait for the break of dawn. At about a few minutes past 6 o'clock (AM) today, I was already up. I had no water at home and since the power situation in our area has been nothing to write home about of late, getting water most times has become quite a Herculean task. With this in mind, I had to wake early. So I picked up my drinking water bucket, trekked about 300m before I could get to where there was water, the seller said fifty naira (N50) per bucket, which is on the high side because water is usually sold for two buckets at fifty naira but due to the fact that the seller said he pumped the water using his Generator, selling at that price was justified. So without complains, I fetched, paid and left. A few minutes later I was home, put my water bucket down, scooped a little in a cup, grabbed my toothbrush and then tooth paste, brushed my mouth in such a hurry that any one watching would think I was rushing to go meet up with an interview with the president of the United States of America!! 😅 So in no time, I was done brushing, I had no food left to eat so I poured in some garri powder into a small bowl, added water and salt and drank the garri just so I do not leave my stomach completely empty. So after this, I got dressed, grabbed my work bag (a cross bag) and then left for work. I found my way to the main road, flagged a tricycle which is commonly called kekenapep here in Nigeria and then boarded. Few minutes later I was at my bus stop so I alighted, paid the driver and then proceeded to heading to the company's gate. At the company's gate, I had to bring out my reflective jacket since no entry is allowed for persons without reflective jackets or PPE such as rain boots or even coverall. So I brought my reflective out, put it on and without stress, I was allowed to enter into the company's premises. So hurriedly i tried to get the venue where the tipper had tipped the soil which was to be spread about, but on getting there, I met no one, not even the co-labour worker guy who tipped me off about the job. Frustrated though, but with my temper in check, I brought out my cell phone and dialed the guy's number. He picked at first attempt, repeatedly saying 'hello' as though he couldn't hear me clearly. I had to end the call and call back, but all I was hearing from him was Hello and nothing more. At this moment, I decided to send the guy a text urging him to reply and that I was at company already, but he didn't. This was at about 8:10am. After waiting for an SMS response and getting none after about 20mins, I decided to change into my work clothes and then wait a bit more. At this point, at about 8:30am, my supervisor who's name is Engr. Riwan had come to site already, he called me on phone and I had to move over to our usual location where we were supposed to work today. I couldn't wait any more, so I moved to venue, exchanged morning greetings with my supervisor, followed him to the store house to sign and collect working tools such as wheel barrows, shovels and rakes and then returned back to our work location. By this time, other co-workers had arrived and we started working. Our first job this morning was to clear off a muddy area which was waterlogged so that casting can be done in that area. It was a really hectic job. So I and two other guys were with the shovels while two guys volunteered to ride the muddy soil to where it was to be disposed of. This took us about two hours to achieve. After clearing the area of all bad materials, we noticed that another point looked bubbly, indicating the presence of water underneath the soil. So patiently, we dug and removed the soil in that area and noticed the water was from a leaky water pipe which was not properly plumbed. So we called the attention of the plumbers who came, observed the leaking water pipe and said they were going to fix it. At this point, it was past 11 o'clock already and we were already exhausted due to how tedious the job we did was...so as against 12 Noon which is the official time for break, the supervisor asked us to proceed to break and to return by 1pm which is the official end of break. So I and the other guys left for break. Me, who had nothing to eat since morning, I became even more hungry. I had exerted alot of energy in the job. I reached out to one of my old time friends explaining to him my situation... luckily for me, man asked me to send him my bank account details and he sent me five thousand Naira (N5000)!! This felt like a dream to me!! So immediately, I rushed to my favorite canteen, but on getting there, I met the vendor's absence. I was told by people around that she didn't come today. Disappointed and frustrated, I just sat on a long bench there while pondering about life. Some minutes later, I decided to purchase some snacks. Though not a fan of snacks, but I had to 'cuz in this case, I had no choice. So I bought 1 ball of egg roll for five hundred naira (N500) and a carbonated bottled drink to wash it down. Though not the meal I intended for, but it wasn't a bad meal either. After some time, I was done consuming the snacks, paid and left the venue to continue with my break. Time was 12:12pm meaning I stil had over 48 more minutes worth of break time. So feeling so tired, I went into one empty space where I usually enjoy staying due to how cool and airy the location is and then laid down. Before I could say Jack, I had already dosed off. By the time I woke, it was past 1pm already. Feeling reluctant, I decided to rest a bit more so that it gets to 1:30 before moving out to location. At exactly 1:30pm, l left for site. On getting back to site, I met three coworkers already and they had already resumed work. I tried to help out as I should but felt a sharp pain around my waist. At first I thought it was just a minor pain, but then the pain kept increasing, thus preventing me from working at a full 100% capacity 🥺. I reported this to my supervisor and him being a good man asked me to close for the day to avoid aggravating the situation. I told him thanks and limped off. I got to where I kept my bag and next was the stream so I could wash off. I got to the stream, took my bath, got dressed and left for home. This time, I decided to follow the short cut route rather than the company's gate. Still feeling pains around my waist, I managed to get to where I can board a taxi. So I eventually got to the main road, boarded a taxi and then I got home. While on my way home, while trekking along the short cut route, I came across a young teen girl who was hawking cooked pork meat and I decided to patronize her. I picked a few pieces and then paid. So on getting home, I didn't feel too hungry, coupled with my condition (waist pain). I just fell straight on my bed and slept. Before I will know, I had slept for over 50 minutes...on waking up, this was around 7:30pm, I reached out for a bottle of hot balm, massaged the part of my waist where I was feeling the pains and laid back on the bed again. After laying on the bed for sometime, I noticed I couldn't catch a sleep, so I picked up my phone, then realized I was running low on battery. I had just 15% worth of battery power left. So I managed to get off the bed, picked my cell phone charger, got my hoodie on and left to look for where I could charge my phone. Luckily enough, a friend of mine called Osongo Ama, had their generating set ON, so I gave my phone to him, and he helped me plug so it could charge. While the phone was charging, I went and stayed with my very good friend @ Udo IkotAbasi who happens to stay within that axis. So we chatted for sometime. After about two hours,I went and got my phone, bidded goodnight to my good friend and off I went to my house. On getting home, I began to feel hungry but since I hadn't prepared anything, I'll have to go to bed like that. By tomorrow morning, I'll fix something for breakfast. So guys, that's it for today on how my day went. See you all next time on another edition of THE DIARY GAMES on my blog!! Bye....🥹🥹
