The Diary Game: Performing In a Funeral Service With My Band Boys ||27-03-2026||

A new gig came in today and just as I was about to think it's over for quarter one, this one came with huge pay. I had mobilized my team members and we went to the event ground. We set up our equipments and I was both the sound engineer and the bassist. When I finished setting up the sound system, we played and warmed the place till the funeral service commenced.

The thing about a typical Akwa Ibom funeral events is that, you are definitely going to enjoy it, especially if the person that passed on to glory is an aged person, there won't be too much mourning, just some few members of the family will be doing that but the rest will be celebration because at the end of the day, the person is gone and gone for life.

We had so many cultural groups that came to perform and I haven't heard of them before but they came and did wonders. The way the Nka Uforo were playing their cultural drums and the dance was amazing. It was like they stole the whole event but we the band people knew our onions and also went band for band with them.

After the first cultural display, the priest came to give his sermon and also bless the corpse before it's being taken to the final resting place. After some words of exhortation, the priest prayed and the the corpse was taken from where it was lying down to the backyard where it will be lowered down to the grave.

Immediately the corpse was covered up in the grave, the long legged Akwa Ibom traditional masquerade came to display as a sign of final respect paid to the late traditional chief that passed on. The display was all you needed to sit and relax with. I almost forgot my job and after that, we played some tunes and the event was over.

Our food was brought to us but I didn't want to eat it, so I gave it out to one of our band member, my only goal was to go back home and just rest. After they finished eating their food, we began to pack our things back to the bus that took us here.

When we got to Uyo, it was around 5pm, I branched the restaurant to quickly buy my dinner and eat because I knew if I should enter the house, I wasn't coming out again.

After I finished eating, I went back home and luckily, there was light so I played our recorded session today and began to listen to it. We are good at what we do, I was just enjoying the blast of our performance on my home theatre. I took my bath and went outside, it's time to share this day so I could have some sleep.
