Steem Virtual Machine (SVM) — Healthy After the Latest Upgrade

in Steem Dev6 hours ago

The Steem Virtual Machine (SVM) continues to make steady progress after the latest upgrade.

The network is currently healthy and actively producing blocks, with more validators joining the testnet and transactions being processed successfully.

Current SVM Testnet Status

Here are the latest numbers:

  • 7 active validators
  • 336+ test transactions
  • ~5.3 seconds average block time
  • 38,000+ blocks produced
  • Latest SVM upgrade: v0.0.3 — Bridge Oracle
  • EVM Chain ID: 8163

The current branch contains the latest bridge, oracle, validator identity and EVM-related improvements. The repository describes SVM as an EVM-compatible Cosmos chain that brings STEEM into a smart-contract environment while maintaining a validator-attested STEEM bridge. (GitHub)

A block time of around 5.3 seconds is particularly encouraging. It shows that the upgraded network is consistently producing blocks with the current validator set.

More Validators Are Needed

We now have 7 active validators, but the goal is to continue growing the validator set and test the network under more realistic conditions.

More validators mean more distributed participation, more testing of consensus and bridge-oracle operations, and a stronger foundation for the next stages of SVM development.

If you are interested in participating in the SVM testnet, this is a good time to join.

SVM Scan Update Coming Soon

I will also be updating SVM Scan soon with the latest network data.

The explorer will continue to provide a convenient way to monitor:

  • Blocks
  • Transactions
  • Validators
  • EVM activity
  • IBC transfers
  • Bridge deposits and withdrawals
  • Oracle confirmations
  • Liquidity and other SVM ecosystem activity

As the testnet grows, having reliable explorer and indexing infrastructure becomes increasingly important for developers and validators.

Want to Run an SVM Validator?

If you want to participate in producing blocks, please install the latest SVM version rather than using an older validator setup.

The latest validator installation approach includes the recent script fixes and provides the current procedure for creating and starting a new validator.

The repository's current instructions cover running the node, creating the validator identity, staking, and running the oracle alongside the validator. (GitHub)

A Small but Important Milestone

From the early stages of SVM development to now, the network has moved from initial testing into a much more active environment.

7 validators.
336+ test transactions.
38K+ blocks.
~5.3 second blocks.

These are still testnet numbers, but they are important indicators that the SVM infrastructure is working and that the latest upgrade is performing well under real validator participation.

There is still a lot to build and test, especially around the bridge oracle, EVM applications, IBC, validators and ecosystem tooling.

But for now, the most important thing is simple:

SVM is healthy, blocks are being produced, and development continues.

More validators and developers are welcome to join the testnet and help us push SVM toward the next stage.
