SteemVM Testnet Update: 56K Blocks, 11 Validators, and Preparing for the v4 Security Upgrade
The Steem Virtual Machine (SVM) testnet continues to demonstrate exceptional stability and resilience. Over the past few days, we have hit major infrastructure milestones, successfully executed on-chain governance, and closely monitored the broader Cosmos ecosystem for shared-module vulnerabilities.
Today, I want to share our latest network metrics, welcome a new validator to the active set, and outline our immediate roadmap regarding the critical v4 security upgrade.
Network Health & Validator Growth
The SVM testnet is incredibly healthy, consistently producing blocks and stress-testing the EVM execution layer under our new zero-inflation economic model.
Current Testnet Metrics:
- Total Blocks Produced: 56,000+
- Network Status: Fully Healthy & Producing Blocks
- Active Validators: 11
- Inflation Rate: 0% (Governance Proposal 1 Executed)
Our validator set has grown to 11 active nodes. A special welcome to @svm-deployer, the latest addition to the SVM validator set! Having a robust, decentralized set of validators is crucial for testing network fault tolerance, consensus stability, and oracle reliability.
Security First: The Cosmos EVM Patch & v4 Upgrade
As many of you read in my recent security updates, the broader Cosmos ecosystem recently faced a critical security incident involving the Cosmos EVM module—the exact open-source stack that powers EVM compatibility on SVM.
Other chains experienced exploits tied to staking precompiles, vesting accounts, and EVM balance write-back mechanisms (specifically underflow vulnerabilities). Fortunately, Cosmos Labs has officially released the patches (v0.6.2 and v0.7.2) to remediate these state-handling defects.
What is Next for SVM? The v4 Proposal
Because SVM relies on this shared modular architecture, we must be proactive. I am currently working on a v4 governance proposal and coordinated network upgrade.
The primary objective of the v4 upgrade is to integrate the official Cosmos Labs security patches directly into the SVM binaries.
Even though the SVM testnet was not exploited, applying this patch is an absolute necessity. We cannot move forward with mainnet preparations until we guarantee that the underlying EVM state transitions, vesting logic, and precompiles are mathematically secure against the vectors that impacted other networks. Once the v4 binary is compiled and tested locally, I will submit the governance proposal so the validator set can coordinate the upgrade seamlessly.
Testnet Disclaimer
Important Reminder: The Steem Virtual Machine (SVM) is strictly in its testnet phase. All bonded STEEM, transactions executed, and tokens generated are purely for testing the consensus and EVM execution layers. There is no real-world monetary value attached to this chain or its assets.
