Ulcer, Uncertainty, and Unending Waits; My Third Day at the Hospital

in Steem Fashion&Style2 days ago

It’s another day of hospital runs today making it the third day I have been in and out of the hospital. Today I was supposed to go get my lab result and then wait for my turn to see the doctor.

I had to leave home early again after my morning routine and headed to the hospital. I arrived at about 9am and had to wait with the long queue of people who were also waiting to see the doctor.

Soonest the lab result was given to me and I also had to go do my vitals with one of the nurses on duty. There were some persons already waiting on the queue before me. I over heard a man complaining that he has been at the hospital since past 6am and he was yet to see the doctor.

By now it was already 11am. I sat patiently waiting for my turn. Soonest it was my turn. I went in and the doctor on sit, it was a female. She looked at my results and scan and it was diagnosed that I have ulcer. Well, it came as a shock to me though.

I couldn’t quite place my hands on it. She went ahead to tell me that people react in different ways to ulcer. She said that I can eat anything I want as long as it isn’t peppery and I should avoid the food that my body reacts against.

She went ahead to write a paper load of medications ranging from ulcer drugs to malaria, blood capsules, protein and multivitamins and pain killers. When I told her about the dizziness I have been feeling, she said she didn’t think it was because of blood shortage.

My blood percentage was 30% and according to her, that’s what most pregnant women have and are okay. She insinuated that I should go to the ear clinic to have my ear checked out that the stuff responsible for balance in the body is in the ear.

I knew nothing was wrong with my ears but how do you tell that to a doctor. I had to obey. After I left her office, I had to make my way to the ear clinic to have my ear checked out. When I got there and explained my situation, they didn’t understand it too and told me to wait.

I had to wait for over three hours just to see the doctor. There were some patients there before me too. And in between, they had a presentation to make which took another hour. I was close to being frustrated. It was past 2pm and I hadn’t eaten all day. For someone that had ulcer that wasn’t a good thing.

I had to buy plantain chips and potato chips to munch on just to curb the rage going on in my stomach. It was already hurting. Later on the doctor saw me after three hours plus of waiting. He checked my ears and said my ears are okay and that I am not his patient.

He then made another prescription for me to help with the dizziness. I had about twelve types of drugs to buy. From there I made my way to the pharmacy to get these drugs and that took another time of its own.

The drugs are quite expensive and the first pharmacy didn’t have all of them drugs. I had to go to three other pharmacies and final I got them in the last one. By this time it was already 5pm. I hadn’t eaten. I was knackered. I had to stop on the way to buy chicken for chicken Peppersoup that I wanted to make but there won’t be much pepper though.

My brother wasn’t at home and I had to spend another one hour plus waiting for my cousin to come and bring the key to the house. I stayed outside till past 6pm. I had to buy water melon and pineapple to eat before I faint. What a day!

It was really a long day. When they finally brought the keys, we went home and I moved straight to the kitchen to prepare the chicken Peppersoup and plantain. That was what I had for dinner. Meanwhile I had to binge on bread and mayonnaise in between to wedge the hunger gnawing at my soul.

When I finally had dinner, I had to take the drugs that I bought. There were so many of them. I couldn’t help but wonder. But what would I do. I had to just take them. I don’t know how having ulcer came about but I do hope this phase passes as soon as possible. Those drugs are really very heavy when I take them that I have to sleep a lot.

I do hope I recover soon but these hospital runs days has not been easy at all. Its was indeed three days of long queues, delays and determination.
