Hello amazing Steemians! 🌟

It’s always a pleasure to share my artistic journey with this wonderful community, and this week’s contest titled ā€œProve Yourself as the Best Artistā€ organized by @dequeen truly gave me the motivation to push my limits once again. Today, for this entry, I decided to create a pencil portrait that focuses on elegance, softness, and controlled expression—qualities I admire deeply in portrait art. Stay tuned as I walk you through the process of how I created this drawing.

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1

To begin my drawing, I began refining the facial features. I shaped the eyebrows, outlined the eyelids, and carefully formed the lips. Even though the eyes were closed, I made sure the eyelashes looked natural and soft. This step gave life to the portrait and made it more expressive.

Step 2

Next I step into shading. I started adding light tones across the face, gradually building depth. I used smooth, controlled strokes to blend the graphite, especially around the cheeks and jawline. My goal was to achieve a soft skin texture without harsh lines.

Step 3

After doing that, I then focused on the hair. I used repeated pencil strokes in the direction of the strands to create a realistic texture. I made sure to leave some areas lighter to show shine while darkening other parts to create contrast. The bun at the back required patience, but it added balance to the entire composition.

Step 4

After achieving the hair, I then worked on adding the shoulder and neck. I used my charcoal pencil to darken the clothing and used a light HB pencil to shade the shoulder too.

Step 5

As the portrait finally took its shape, I went over the entire drawing, adjusting shadows and smoothing transitions where needed. I deepened some areas for contrast and cleaned up any rough edges. This step helped bring everything together into a polished piece. Below is my final result.
