Today I cast a vote on a friend's post, but unlike the expected starry gold-dust that comes with swinging a magic wand, it just made a little poof.
Not even a spark, maybe a little speck of smoke or mist. Nothing grand.

Checking the result, it was a measly 0.009. Definitely not the level of power I would expect of myself at full strength.

The reason for this weak result was obvious, as shown by the red highlight below. I cast my vote with 2,575 Steem Power, and out of this, 100 was delegated. So the actual value was 2,475 or less.

Now, the area with the green highlight shows that I could cast a stronger vote if my Steem were converted into Steem Power.
This process requires authorisation with a 51-character active key.

And yes, I have exactly such a key that will convert the available 801 Steem into Steem Power in a process called Power Up.

Starting at the content menu in my wallet, I dropped and selected Sign up. Then I entered my username and provided my active key.

After selecting the Login button, my dormant wallet was activated, shimmering with a faint green glow.

Powering up 801 Steem would move me from 2,575 Steem Power to 3,376.

I dropped the arrow at the Steem section, then selected the Power Up option from the list.
In the dialogue box that came out, I went for the entire balance: all 801.442 Steem.

I selected the Power Up button, did the necessary confirmations and every Steem, including the fractions I had, was moved and converted from Steem to Steem Power.

Now I have 3,376 Steem Power and some fractions.

While my profile was yet to be updated, it was still showing 2,475 as my effective Steem Power.

The SteemPro app was already showing 3.337k, and guess what! I wanted to see what I could do with a little over 3,000 as Steem Power.
So I switched to steemworld.org and queried my account.

Current Steempower	3,376
Delegated	100.32
Effective Steempower	3,276

So now, with 3,276 Steem Power, it's time to see what the new result will be. I located another friend's post, cast a vote with 100% like I did the first. The post already had 34 votes at the time, and I got a 0.01

That is better compared to the 0.009 I had earlier, but I should be able to bless a post with $1. That is my target.

Conclusion and Invitation

Higher Steem Power means greater voting power, and I can only get there by Powering Up. With better Steem Power comes better curation rewards. I view every Power Up as both a savings and an investment.
