My pencil portrait of virat kohli
Greetings to everyone, and I humbly welcome you all to my blog. One of the things I truly enjoy about drawing is how a simple pencil can slowly transform a blank sheet of paper into something meaningful. Whenever I pick up a pencil and sit before a blank sheet of paper, it feels like entering a calm world where patience and creativity work together. For my post today, I will be sharing one of my latest pencil drawings, a drawing of one of cricket’s most admired athletes, Virat Kohli. Stay tuned as I show you how I made this piece.
Drawing materials
• A4 paper
• graphite pencil
• charcoal pencil
• different grades of pencils
• mechanical pencil
• black pen
• eraser
• sharpener
Step 1
I started by lightly sketching the outline of the head and marking the positions of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Then I began refining the facial features. I focused first on the eyes, then the eyebrows, nose, and mouth.
Step 2
After doing that, next I then worked on his beard. To recreate this, I used many short pencil strokes layered over each other. This approach gives the beard a natural hair texture instead of a flat shaded look.
Step 3
Next I focused on the hair. The hair on the head required a slightly different approach. First I drew an outline, then I followed the direction of the hair strands while gradually adding darker tones to create volume and contrast.
Step 4
Shading is where the drawing truly transforms. I gently added shadows around the cheeks, under the nose, and along the jawline to define the structure of the face, and then I also added shading to the clothing to complete the drawing.
Step 5
Finally, I reviewed my entire drawing. I deepened the darkest areas in the hair and beard, cleaned up stray marks, and erased the remaining guidelines. Seeing the portrait finally come together was a satisfying moment, and below is the final result.
My selfie with my drawing
Every drawing is a small journey of observation, patience, and creativity. This portrait of Virat Kohli pushed me to pay attention to textures and facial structure, and I truly enjoyed the process from start to finish. I hope you all liked my drawing and feel free to share your thoughts.

Your pencil portrait of Virat Kohli is truly beautiful. The patience and skill with which you have drawn the details of the eyes, beard and hair are clearly visible. The shading in particular has made the facial expressions very realistic. Your step by step method also makes it clear how much attention and effort is required to create a good portrait. It is nice to see that you have used different pencils and techniques. This is truly an impressive piece of art. Well done, keep sharing your creativity.
Thank you, I really appreciate it
