Hotel Azad, Chittagong

Hotel Azad is an eatery that has various food items, starting from all morning and evening snacks to lunch and dinner. They serve Bengali-style food, and on weekends they made Chattogram’s traditional recipe, Mejbani. In this post, I will share with you what Hotel Azad offers to its customers.

It is located on the ground floor beside the Hotel Asian SR Building, right across from the Chattogram Railway Station in the New Market area, a significant location in Chittagong. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As mentioned earlier, being located near the Chattogram Railway Station, it’s a busy place with a constant flow of customers, which is why they keep their service running day and night.

It’s more appropriate to call this place a ‘Hotel’ than a ‘Restaurant’ because restaurants usually have various special recipes and dishes, but these types of eateries, which sell traditional and homestyle Bengali food, are called Khabarer Hotel (Food Hotel). These hotels are in high demand among the general public because they even cater to customers who just want a cup of tea.

The main dining hall of the hotel is quite large and very spacious. Upon entering, you only see the tables and chairs where you can choose your preferred spot to sit. The interior work has been done quite well. The ceiling has sufficient lighting and fans. Notably, there is a fan placed beneath every table.

The walls feature a modern design with a texture that looks quite nice; you can observe this design clearly if you sit at the tables near the wall. The ceiling has a lattice-work interior setup with lighting fixtures inside, which made it look quite attractive.

The hotel has about 7-8 staff members for serving food, and there may be more staff, including cooks, for the kitchen. All the staff wore the same type of blue half-shirts, and their behavior was very good. Although I did not get a chance to take a picture of the menu card, a staff member came over and informed me about the available food items and their details. I visited there for morning snacks and the taste of the food was quite good.

There is ample seating arrangement for customers. Sofa-type seating systems are not commonly seen in these kinds of hotels. The tables and chairs are all made of durable wood, which itself exudes a certain grandness. Sitting on the wooden chairs felt just as comfortable as one would expect. There are seating tables in a total of three rows. The tables on the two sides can seat four people each, and the tables in the middle can seat six customers. Employees constantly clean them before a new customer sits down.

The hotel has a separate basin for hand washing, which will be convenient for customers. However, a negative point is the absence of a washroom, which is generally not available in these types of food hotels. There are separate seating cabins with curtains at the back for women, which many people look for.

Hotel Azad has earned a lot of fame for its food, especially for its Bengali and traditional cuisine, which is why most customers visit there. The prices of the food are comparatively low. I hope that the food and the environment of this hotel will be quite satisfying to the customers.
