Mahfil - Not just a religious event anymore.

A Mahfil is where, a muslim society arranges a cultural event where renowned Islamic scholars come and influence Muslims about the vision and spiritual ethics of religion.

A few days ago, a nearby Islamic Orphanage School arranged a mahfil. Nowadays, a mahfil is not just a place where people gather to gain knowledge. Now, it’s become more than that. It has become a festival for the surrounding area. Street vendors come to sell products. Citizens came to buy their needs at cheap prices.

Not only basic needs, but it has also become a place for all kinds of products. From kitchenware to baby toys, fast food to sweets, hats, dresses, etc.

Well, let's talk about this one. It was arranged by Zamia Mahmudia Oli Nagar Shikdarbag Madrasha and Orphanage. It’s an old and famous Orphanage and Islamic education center. This is run by people’s donations.

Usually, this type of mahfil starts in the evening and runs until midnight. Starts with the citation from the Holy Al-Quran. Some Islamic songs, and then scholars' lectures. This was not different. The chief speaker was Mufti Abdul Baten Qassemi, Principal of Zamia Muhammadia Arabia, Mirpur.

I went there at 23.00 local time. There was a lot of crowd at that time. Some people were listening to the scholars. Some people are walking here and there. Some people were buying things from the vendors. I saw a lot of women gathering near the kitchenware store and the cosmetics store. People were buying toys for their children. A few people were buying toys for their grandchildren.

It was fun and enjoyable. I noticed many people from other religions. They also come here to buy something for themselves. Bangladesh is a land of multiculturalism and it was the proof. I enjoyed everything around. Not just the mahfil, but the environment, the food. It was worth it.
