One Picture One story-Historical Sardarbari Sonargoan
Hello dear Steamian friends,
Sonargaon city of Narayanganj, once the capital of ancient Bengal, is home to the Bara Sardar Bari, a historical monument of local culture and heritage. The magnificent Zamindar Bari was built in Sonargaon during the reign of Bhuiya Isa, one of the twelve Bhuiyas, who was endowed with adventurous courage. According to historians, this architecture was built towards the end of the Sultanate period and during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar. The Zamindar Bari was named after the wife of Bhuiya Isa Khan, one of the twelve Bhuiyas.
Around 1600, the influential ruler Isa Khan established this Zamindar Bari on 27,400 square feet of land. It is locally known as Bara Sardar Bari. The two-storey Bara Sardar Bari has 85 rooms in the main building. The entire two-storey house is decorated with sophisticated designs, tiles and marble, which, even though it is 600 years ago, gives a touch of modernity.
There is an inscription on the wall of the entrance of the Sardarbari, from which a lot of information is known about the history of this big Sardar's house. There are 47 rooms on the ground floor of this Zamindar's house and another 38 rooms on the second floor.
The big Sardar's house can be called a haven of beauty. Although it was built in ancient times, the impression of modernity can be seen in every corner of it.
The house has two paved entrances on the west and south sides and the veranda of the south entrance is 25 feet long.
There is a pond with a brick ghat near the west door of the well-decorated, huge Sardar's house. The water of the pond is clear and vibrant. There is a beautiful seating arrangement around the pond. The pleasure of sitting in the shade of the trees and enjoying the beauty of the Sardar's house is different.
Due to the presence of trees, the fresh air touches the body all the time. There is a ghatla next to the Sardar's house. Two soldiers on horseback are guarding the Sardar's house all the time on both sides of the ghatla. As if they are still responsible for the security of the Sardar's house.
The Bara Sardar's house, which has stood for more than six hundred years, has been a witness to history. Like the Bara Sardar's house, man-made architecture also survives over time.
Today, the Bara Sardar's house is part of our heritage, a witness to history. The symbol of heritage, the Bara Sardar's house is currently being managed under the Bangladesh Archaeology Department. They carefully perform all the responsibilities of its maintenance. The Bara Sardar's house, a haven of wonderful harmony in a beautiful and peaceful environment, stands tall as a witness to history.
