Traditional ceremony
special gathering of people witnessing the soleminization of couples in a traditional way. Its always conducted in the evening around 04:00 clock in the evening to 06:00 in the brides extended compound and village.
People start coming to the ceremony in the evening with a uniform choose by the couples (usually Ankara or lace material).
After arrival of guests,the variety of food eaten by the people will be introduced by a woman. These foods include: ekpang nkukwo, edita iwa, afia efere, afia ikpon, efere nkong, afere atike, afere afang, usong iwa, ayan ekpang and lot more. This is traditionally called udia ebenge.
After these food is shared to the guest,
While people are eating, there is an entertainment going on. A group of men are playing traditional songs with traditional instruments like ekere, ibid, udu, ubok ekpo, obodom, abang, ntokrok. And girls are wearing dancing costumes with beads use to design their legs, hands, and neck dancing to a traditional rhythm called ekombi or utta just to entertain the guest.
Afer eating the traditional marriage fully starts with the arrival of the groom.
The groom is accompanied with a brass band playing for him to dance while friends families and relatives dance with him.
The MC comes in here and question the groom. After questioning the groom goes back to his sit.
After this an elderly man from the grooms family will come out to send a woman from the bride family to go and bring the bride. The woman will then request for transport to go, a bottle of wine and some money.
A girl too young for marriage will be brought at the first instances
She will be denied by the elderly man.
The woman will request for a fare greater than the old one the woman will then go back an bring the bride.
While the bride comes in a song is played for her to dance.she is accompanied by the chief bride's maid who holds her umbrella and also colleague villagers well wishers and friends.
After a while the bride is left to stand alone in the middle of crowds the MC tells her to give her husband a name, and also ask the husband what he will eat the day after the marriage.
The husband answer by tell her the saup he want to eating and giving her money for the food.
The MC calls the guest to come and give her money also.
After the couples are both introduced to their parents.
This ends with the parent giving them their blessing, gifts given to the couples, and clossing remarks by the chairman.
