Heart is the central cardiovascular organ that beats about 2.5 billion times over one's lifetime pushing a large amount of blood to every parts of our body. Heart helps keep our body active by circulating blood in a certain rhythm. So keeping heart health good is very important. For this we must eat vegetables that support healthy heart and longevity. Vegetables are an essential part of our daily diet. So we should keep heart supportive veggies in our diet chart to maintain good heart. Vegetables like tomato, carrot, sweet potato, leafy greens, onion, garlic, beans etc. are good for healthy heart.

High level of lycopene and vitamin-A of tomatoes provide antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Tomato also contains potassium, fiber and vitamin C. These helps decrease bad cholesterol (LDL) and stroke risk; and reduce blood pressure. These nutrients are more available for absorption when tomatoes are cooked with small portion of oil.

Onion contains phenolic compounds that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These helps reduce blood vessel stenosis and increase level of good cholesterol (HDL).

A substance called 'allicin' of garlic provides antioxidant benefits and reduce cholesterol absorption from gastrointestinal tract into bloodstream. Garlic reduce blood pressure and improve blood flow.

Water spinach contains antioxidants and minerals like calcium, iron, potassium etc. Patients of hypertension should eat it as potassium helps lower blood pressure. Water spinach reduces cardiovascular risk factor and thus promotes heart health. Antioxidants like vitamin A, C and beta-carotene reduce risk of stroke and heart attack.
