Here are somefunctions of the cervix
In every menstrual cycle, a woman menstruate. It allow the flow of menstrual blood from the uterus into the vagina.
We live in a world of bacteria, majority of them are harmless and they live within the vagina, but sometimes because of our lifestyle, exposure, you may introduce bacteria that may be harmful into the Vagina but the CERVIX will protect the uterus from the bacteria and other foreign objects.
Even while bathing, washing inside the vagina with plenty water, might not keep it clean, thereby introducing bacteria to the vagina, but the Cervix is there to help ensure that it does end up in the uterus.
- When you have sexual intercourse with your hubby especially during your ovulation, do you know what happens after he has ejaculated? He releases sperm into you, normally all the sperm is supposed to DIE OFF immediately? Do you know why? That is because the Vagina is acidic and in such an environment, the sperm may not swim to the fallopian tube.
This is where the cervix played an important role. It releases a cervical fluid called cervical mucus. That mucus will then protect, guide, help the sperm to swim and survive the acidity of the vagina environment.
- Then the Most important function of a cervix. Immediately a lady is pregnant, the cervix plays an important role for you to carry the baby to term. It does the following:
Closes up, so that the new life being formed inside is duly protected. This is why some women experience miscarriage when the Cervix opens suddenly, especially during the 1st trimester,
As labor approaches, the cervix may start to thin or stretch (efface) and open (dilate). This prepares the cervix for the baby to pass through the birth canal (vagina).
So note that healthy, sexual and reproductive organs are vital to a woman's sexual health. And learning about the functions of each organ and how these organs work together allows you to be aware of your body and of any changes that might indicate a problem.
