Hey! @steemit fam, how are guys doing? Hope your good! I told you guys earlier that I’ll be doing my clinical posting for few months in other to get more experience of my profession as a medical laboratory scientist. It hasn’t been a set though, the early morning wake up’s, trekking to work and late eating and coupled with other things that makes it tough for me. My first unit is the medical microbiology and parasitology department. Here am going to take you through what it looks like and what’s been done.

So after proper collection of sample volume into sample container, the sample can be blood, sputum, stool or CSF/aspirate. The sample depends on the test requested, the sample and patient identity is being documented and the sample is taken to the appropriate laboratory for analysis. So in parasitology, it deals with analysis of blood samples for examination of parasites like malaria parasite also analysis of stool for examination of parasite too. Then immunology also deals with the analysis of blood samples for Hepatitis B and C test, Widal test, VDRL, and others all these are concerning the immune system. After the test are analyzed with the proper sample and carefully analyzed, results are given out to the dispatch unit, A quick reminder samples are collected and documented in reception unit.

In microbiology lab we have different benches that run different tests. We have the following benches: Urine MCS Bench, Genital Bench, Wound bench, CSF and aspirate bench,Semen bench and others. The samples required are the following respectively: Urine, Vagina Swab/Swab, wound swab, CSF fluid/pleural fluid, semen etc. These samples are used to carry out the test requested for the patients in order to give proper treatment. As little the information is, the work is so intense and stressful but we’re being trained for it so with passion we carry out this stressful process and task with love and joy to make sure patient care is being taken care of, hope you were enlightened and you found something interesting.
