Moss the non-flowering plant
When I was kid I remember I use to peel off blanket of these plants and made imaginary designs of it
So these are non flowering plant which produces spores and have stems and leaves but have no true roots, as mosses
Don't have a vascular system, they have no use for roots like most other plant do.(They can't use root to take up and transport water or nutrients from the soil or substrate. Instead they have rhizoid which look like roots but function differently as the are to attach to a log, rock soil or other substrate they are growing on.
Mosses(liverworts and hornworts)are part of a group of plant called bryophytes. And bryophytes are part of a larger classification called the cryptogram. Which includes algae, fungi, moulds and lichens.
The don't produce flower or seeds.
Moss grow in different environment because of their range of adaptation, they are able to occupy areas that are uninhabitable such as Rocky and mountainside.
Moss function like sponges using their capillary spaces to hang on to water
They help to soak up rain forest maintain moisture in the soil below and keep condition around them humid.
Moss can completely dessicate and become dormant in very hot weather, but once they receive water again they spring back to life and begin to photosynthesis again. They reproduce through spore or through division. When mosses reproduce through spore, it mixes the genetic of two plant to creat a capsule of spores.
Uses of mosses
They are use by florist for home decorations
It was use as fire extinguisher in old times
