Hello, dear friends, how are you all? I pray that you are fine ad in safety. Typhoon Fung wong has already entered the Philippines and brought devastation in other places, as for me, we only experienced moderate rains and moderate gusts of winds but they also caused damages in the surroundings calling my husband on his duty as a barangay tanod to rescue and clear the road obstructed by the fallen trees. I pray that he will be safe through his work even if it means he will not be able to go home tonight nor until when the typhoon will end.

It's Sunday tomorrow, my day off as well as my son's 6th birthday and I thank God that despite our tight financial struggles these days, he still gave us safety and good health.

For today's post, I will be sharing about my experience with the very first needlework in stitching with elastics.

First, I bought cotton spandex in an online shop, had no idea about the color that will be given to me but lo, I was surprised with what I received. The polka dots looked very cute and is perfect for their purpose.

I decided that the yellow one will be for my eldest and the blue one for my second born. I am still undecided on where to use the white one until now.

Anyways, I was digging for my stocked garments from the plastic bags that I placed them. I was looking for something to do practice on but this old needle work of mine is what I have found. I got interested in embroidery a long time ago and tried these on a white long-sleeve. I was very in love at this time thus I embroidered our endearment on the sleeve. I wasn't aware of embroidery floss at that time so I used ordinary sewing thread.
I did not have access to the internet at this time and only did what my mind told me to. Some turned out pretty good, what about you? What do you think about it?

THE TRIAL

Now here goes my very first trial of incorporating the elastic into my project.

I had a couple of broken needles and broken thread; my patience almost run out but I stayed calm and continued to sew.

I changed my current thread to a branded one, which means a stronger one, and had new needles inserted. I still had a few broken threads but it went better than earlier.

Stitching with elastics are very tricky, to make the stitches work, I cut the elastic to shorter than the desired length to make it strechible and hold on to wherever it is needed and pulled the fabric and the elastic together to sew them in, I had many mistakes at first because it is my first time doing it and from those mistakes, I leaned and made it possible; It was hard but am glad I had strong determination and proved myself that I could to it and so I did! Not yet perfect but I'm on my way, besides no one started and did perfectly anyway.

Broken threads made my work ugly and dirty. But since it will be used by my kids and they don't mind about it. I still gave it a go and my kids loved it!

My kid's reaction to my work motivated me and even if I find it hard to make a piece of undergarment, I still managed to make more!

Now I don't have to buy panties for my kids and maybe make one for me too!

Would you wear a garment that you sew yourself?
