Bazar Review // "Kaptan bazar"

My Fellow Steemian’s,
I’m going to write a review about a Grocery market in Dhaka city called Kaptan Bazar. I hope everyone will enjoy my review.

This morning I visited a portion of Kaptan Bazar, one of the well known & busy marketplaces in Dhaka city. The bazar is located beside Gulistan, so it is always connected with the movement & noise of central Dhaka. Even in the morning, the place was already full of buyers, rickshaws, small vans, & people carrying their daily groceries.

I mainly visited the meat section. It was interesting to see how many different types of poultry & birds are available in one place. At first, everything looked quiet similar, but after spending some time there, I noticed the variety. Broiler Chicken, native chicken, native duck, goose, Chinese duck, pullet, sonali chicken, pigeon, squab, layer chicken, & several other varieties were being sold.

The seller were busy preparing the birds according to customer requirement. Some customers were buying only one or two chickens for their families, while others were buying larger quantities. The whole section has it’s own rhythm.

The sound of people bargaining, sellers calling customers, knives being used, & birds are being prepared for sale. It was a very ordinary morning scene of Dhaka, but there was something interesting about watching this entire supply chain working in front of me.

One thing I noticed was the price. Compared with some other nearby or parallel markets in Dhaka, the prices at Kaptan Bazar seemed relatively lower. This is probably one of the reasons why so many people come here for their regular shopping. When food prices are increasing day by day, even a small difference in price can matter to a family.

Kaptan Bazar is not a quiet or beautiful place in a traditional sense. It is crowded, noisy, sometimes messy & full of movement. But that is exactly what makes it a real part of Dhaka. Standing there this morning, I realized that behind the food we simply put on our dining table, there is a whole network of farmers, traders, transporters, wholesalers, retailers, & market workers. Kaptan Bazar is one small but important part of the larger system.

After spending sometime there, I continued with my day……
