My Kitchen, My Recipe, My Story: week-3 (Milky Popcorn)

Warm greetings and love to all my fellow Steemians.
I am happy to participate in this week's“My Kitchen, My Recipe, My Story”contest. For me, cooking is one of those simple things that allows me to be creative and try something different. Sometimes, you do not need an elaborate meal to enjoy the kitchen. Even an ordinary snack can become something special when you add your own little touch.

For this week's contest, I decided to make Milky Popcorn. Popcorn is already a fun and simple snack, but I wanted to give mine a sweeter and creamier taste by adding powdered milk. I also added a little vanilla extract to give it a lovely aroma. So, let's get into my kitchen and make some popcorn.

Ingredients I Used

For my Milky Popcorn, I used:

2 cups of popcorn kernels

2 tablespoons of margarine/butter

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

4 tablespoons of sugar

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

About ½ cup of powdered milk

The quantities can be adjusted depending on how much popcorn you want to prepare.

MELTING THE MARGARINE

I started by placing my clean pot on fire and allowing it to heat up a little. When the pot was warm, I added about 2 tablespoons of margarine and allowed it to melt. I made sure the heat was not too high because I did not want the margarine to burn before adding the other ingredients.

ADDING THE VEGETABLE OIL

After the margarine had melted, I added about 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. I mixed the two together and allowed them to heat for a short while. The combination of margarine and oil helped give the popcorn a nice taste while also providing enough fat to help the kernels pop properly.

ADDING THE SUGAR

Next, I added about 2 tablespoons of sugar into the pot. I gave it a little stir so that the sugar could mix with the melted margarine and oil. I also added a small amount of vanilla extract because I wanted the popcorn to have a pleasant sweet aroma and flavour.

ADDING THE POPCORN KERNELS

This was the exciting part. I added 2 cups of popcorn kernels into the pot and stirred them together with the mixture. I made sure the kernels were coated properly before covering the pot with its lid. I covered the pot and allowed the kernels to pop over the heat.

After a short while, I started hearing the familiar pop, pop, pop! from inside the pot. I gently shook the pot from time to time to prevent the kernels from staying in one place and burning. I continued until the popping sounds became much less frequent. Then I turned off the heat and carefully opened the pot.

ADDING THE MILK

When I opened the pot, I had a beautiful batch of freshly made popcorn. I then transferred it into a bowl and added about ½ cup of powdered milk. I used a spoon to mix everything thoroughly, making sure the milk touched as much of the popcorn as possible.

This was the part that gave my popcorn its special touch. The powdered milk added a creamy, milky taste that made the popcorn different from the regular one I usually eat.

MY FINAL MILKY POPCORN

It was sweet, crunchy, milky and had a lovely vanilla aroma. I really enjoyed the process because it reminded me that cooking does not always have to be complicated. Sometimes, the simplest ingredients can come together and create something really enjoyable.

I chose this recipe because I wanted to make something simple but still different from ordinary popcorn. Popcorn is one of those snacks that can easily turn a quiet moment into a more enjoyable one, whether you are watching a movie, chatting with friends or simply relaxing.

I also wanted to experiment with an ingredient that I already had at home, which was powdered milk. Instead of having the usual popcorn, I thought, “Why not make it milky?”That little idea brought me into the kitchen, and the result was this sweet and creamy snack. For me, that is one of the beautiful things about cooking. You can start with something ordinary, add your own idea and end up with something that feels completely different. I hope you enjoyed coming along with me on this little kitchen adventure. Have you ever tried adding powdered milk to your popcorn, or is this something you would like to try?
