SLC31-W5: Shop & Share Challenge - Government buildings.

This time, our compass points towards places that have defied the passage of time: shops, buildings, and hidden corners that continue to stand, telling us the story of our city through their enduring presence.

Yes, here is one of them and the project on the picture above, has placed a memory in the memory of our community members in which its already a story that is telling about the story of our community through the fights and struggles of our early parents to see that they have social infrastructure and for years now, this has been of help to the entire community and by God's grace to our future Children to come.

When was this place built or when did records begin? Briefly tell us what its original function was, and whether it still serves that function.

This building has been in existence for Tewnty one (21) years now. I am 28 years old and I remember vividly when this project was put in place, as at then we were fetching water from the stream as little as I was, I was already given my own little container to be following them to the stream.

The original function of this project or government building is to help the community with the provision of water which is one of the social amenities and look, it serves since, today and forever. Life was quite not funny at all when we were going to stream tobfetch water, up till date the entire community depends solely on this borehole water so that is to say it has helped for more than 2 decades now.

How important is this place to your community or to you personally?

Personally, it has been of greatest importance to me. Whenever I visit home, I am always exited and comfortable because having a borehole water available is something every community wants and ever since this project was executed by the government to help the community, the scarcity of water has drastically reduced because we now have water as a community and no need going to the stream for any reason again.

In the entire Akpata community, I know of women who are into serious foods businesses, they make good use of this water, they don't buy water anymore which has become a minus from their expenses already. Some are into laundry businesses and I tell you the truth, we all survive by water through this very source of water provided by government which has been of help till now.

Why do you think it is important for new generations to know about this legacy?

This is very important for our new generation to know about this legacy because they should see how the project has helped and still helping the community for years now. It's going to be very challenging to them if they do not pick the legacy of their father to keep bringing better projects that would serve humanity for years just like this very one.

There are other projects that can be put in place. So, this marks as an example for all the upcoming youths and the present youths to bring more of these projects to the community through the influence of our political leaders who are campaigning to be leaders to execute projects that will exist and be important for the entire community for a long period of time.

In general terms, what do you like most about this site?

I like this site because it serves the whole community and gives its best because hours to hours the engine keeps pumping water and we are so lucky for the engine yes, the government got a very good pumping engine so as to last.

In my part of the world, men rely more on government projects for use in their houses, example is drilling borehole in their houses but they dont, they would rather wait until government approves a certain project .

I am proud of this very project I am also proud of people who pushed for the execution of the project years ago. Some of them are very old while some has gone to enternal glory, all thanks to them for the good works we are enjoying today.
