SLC31-W6 | The Curious Explorer : Food Culture Journey

Yesterday on 23rd May, I completed a special milestone in my life, and it felt truly meaningful to be invited to a party hosted by the president of our senior citizens association. I invite @jyoti-thelight, @weisser-rabe @sduttaskitchen and @alegnita because they know my exact age.
Being welcomed by such respected members of my community made the occasion feel even more special. I enjoyed the warm atmosphere, the thoughtful conversation, and the sense of togetherness that filled the gathering. It was not just a celebration of my milestone, but also a moment of appreciation and connection. I felt honored, grateful, and deeply touched by the kindness shown to me.

What kind of Food Culture Journey have you visited? Briefly introduce yourself.
It was a simple party for local senior citizens in Mangal Bhawan, Pallavpuram Phase 1, Modipram, India hosted by the president of senior citizen association as a get together, that we attended in community after four years since I was out of country during the month of May when it's usually organized. So my entry comes under "community centers" category. It was especially for senior citizens but families were invited.

Mangal Bhawan is not yet listed on Google maps as it was formerly known as Baratghar in Pallavpuram Phase 1, Modipuram, which is a local community hall used for celebrations and social functions especially for community marriages.
Now it has been renamed as Mangal Bhawan for serving events in this area for both large gatherings and smaller ceremonies. Pallavpuram Phase-1 itself is a developed residential area under the local Development Authority.
How were the activities, services and facilities at this place? (With pictures + prices, videos)
Mangal Bhawan a practical venue choice for nearby residents who want an accessible local hall for weddings, birthdays, engagements, cultural and religious events, and community meetings like the one I attended yesterday.
As a former “Baratghar,” (The marriage center) it is community hall rather than a luxury banquet space with few rooms used as resting for visiting guests. This place is famous for its convenience, familiar location, and affordability more than for premium decor, and Mangal Bhawan is described as offering customizable packages for different budgets also the organizers can arrange their own food management.
Earlier known as Baratghar, it is associated with local social and family functions, especially weddings, engagements, birthdays, anniversaries, religious ceremonies, and meeting-style gatherings. Its location in a developed part of Modipuram makes it accessible to nearby residents, and the surrounding infrastructure of Pallavpuram Phase-1 supports easy movement and utility access.

FOOD
Salads- I prefer fresh Salads made from raw or lightly cooked ingredients, including vegetables, fruits, grains, or protein. They served cold and topped with dressing, making them healthy, light, and refreshing meals or side dishes.
So the Salads they made with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, carrot, beans, fruit and other seasoned fruits with salt, lemon, added color, and nutrition to a party, and they prepared them right there at the venue itself.
Snacks- Indian tikki papri chaat is a popular street food loved for its spicy, and crunchy taste. I guess it's popular in entire South Asia especially crispy papri, mashed potato tikki, chutneys, curd, onions, spices, and sometimes chickpeas. I guess these were the most visited stalls as every one was taking a bite which gives a mix of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy flavors.
This chaat is especially enjoyable in the parties these days irrespective of occasion and for their taste that make it one of the most delicious and tempting snacks in Indian parties. I thought even the oldies were enjoying them without any care for their health haha.
Rasgulla and Gulabjamun- They say most people are suffering from diabetes but I saw Rasgulla and gulab jamun were two of the most loved Indian sweets in this party. I agree they go well with their soft texture and rich taste as Rasgulla is made from chenna and soaked in light sugar syrup, giving it a spongy, delicate sweetness but it also gives a few problems but I thought no one cared as they helped themselves freely.Gulab jamun is prepared from milk solids, fried until golden, and dipped in fragrant syrup, making it soft and indulgent. Both sweets were being enjoyed at this party freely. And why not, as they bring joy, warmth, and a delicious sense of tradition to every special occasion and yesterday was a big one.
Puri, Naan and vegetables- Puri, naan, and different vegetables make a delicious and satisfying combination when it comes to Indian party meal because it gives an option to everyone. Even if Puri is a deep-fried breadlike item but being soft, puffy, and tasty even the seniors find it hard to resist.
Naan is of course a soft tandoor (oven) baked bread that goes well with gravies and vegetables. We love vegetables as they not are nutrition, but add flavor to our food. I should tell you in Indian parties these spicy, creamy, or lightly cooked they create a balanced and flavorful meal for lunch, dinner, festivals, and special family gatherings. They did it well even if most people had had enough before coming to the main course.
Note- You can watch people eating in the video.

The hall is presented as suitable for both large and small events, with packages that can be adjusted to different needs and budgets. In short, it is best understood as a practical community event space with local importance rather than a high-end commercial banquet hall.
The hall has a maximum capacity of about 500 guests, so it can handle medium to fairly large gatherings.
As I said this was an annual function organized by senior citizens association so most people you will see in this party are over 60 although each invitee was allowed to bring two guests including one child.

Pallavpuram Phase-1 is a planned residential locality in Modipuram, so a venue like Mangal Bhawan fits the area’s neighborhood needs well. The location is convenient for local families who want a nearby hall without traveling far to nearby cities.

Conclusion
In the end I can say, I enjoyed all the events including the closing ceremony which was performed in traditional way but I did not include in my video because most of you will not relate with that so I left it out. However, the time we spent there was joy and fun that will remain in my memory for a long time.
