Pottery is a traditional art form of Bengal.
In the picture above, you can see a wonderful example of pottery. Pottery is an art form made of clay, which is an integral part of the thousand-year-old tradition and culture of Bengal. Pots, vases, terracotta and dolls made of clay and the skill of craftsmen reflect the joys and sorrows of rural life. With the evolution of time, pottery is almost on the verge of extinction, but craftsmen use their skillful hands to create various types of modern items that attract people.
The main artisans of pottery are the Kumar or Pal community. They shape soft clay into various shapes using a wooden wheel and hand skills, which are then fired to make them durable. Pottery is one of the oldest industries in Bengal. The ancient terracotta tablets of Mahasthangarh and Mainamati also have a rich history of this pottery. The list of pottery includes clay pitchers, pots, jars, banks, hobby pots, molds for making pitha, dolls, animals and birds, tubs and home decoration items.
The art of pottery, which was almost extinct due to the evolution of time, is currently experiencing a renewed demand for clay tubs and aesthetic products in modern designs for roof gardens and home decoration. I have highlighted the aesthetic beauty of the skillful work of pottery in the short video below.
