There lived a king who had a beautiful daughter, the princess. Men came for hand in marriage, but she rejected all of them. This got the king worried. One day he called all his children, including the queen. The princess had to tell them why she had rejected all the men who came for her hand in marriage.

The princess later opened up to them that she would accept anyone who will bring the elephant into her hand in marriage so that when she climbs on it the whole kingdom will know that she is the princess.

When the tortoise heard about this, he went to meet his friend the elephant that the king was holding a very big festival and had made him the elephant the chairman of the occasion. On hearing this, the elephant was very happy, and he agreed to go with the tortoise because he also had his eyes for the princess. The tortoise ran back to tell the king not to worry that he would gift the princess an elephant, that he should wait and see on the day what would happen. The king was surprised and nodded in agreement.

On that faithful day, very early in the morning, the tortoise went to meet the elephant so they could leave for the occasion. On their way going, the tortoise couldn't meet up because of his sluggish way of walking. This got the elephant stopping at intervals to wait for him to meet up. At a point, the tortoise came up with a plan to climb on the back of the elephant so they could be faster. The elephant agreed, but the tortoise found it difficult to climb the elephant back. So he brought out a rope and hung it on the elephant's neck so it could help him climb. And that was how they continued the journey with the tortoise on the elephant's back.

On arriving at the occasion, the tortoise raised his neck and looked at the crowd, hailing and chanting his name. Then the tortoise said to the king, my king my king I have brought the elephant as promised. The elephant was surprised but didn't understand what was going on. On getting to the king, the tortoise came down and handed the king the rope on which he hung on the elephant's neck. And that was how the tortoise, in his wisdom, married the princess and betrayed his friend the elephant.

This might be a story, but it teaches a lot about betrayal. We should be careful of the kind of friends we keep. We should always know the kind of friends we accompany to occasions or events. Your friend might be smiling at you but have bad intentions towards you.
