From a simple sketch to a full face — my pencil drawing journey

Today I am sharing with you one of my new pencil drawings of a boy portrait. This time I have tried to sketch the face of a young man. I developed it gradually in different stages rather than completing it all at once. At each and every stage a new detail was added with care, until a simple sketch became a complete face of boy.

Step One — Basic Outline

Now I started making the outer structure of the face. I marked the ear, jaw and chin area with a light pencil. I tried not to make the initial lines too deep so that they can be easily corrected if needed.

Step Two — Hair arrangement

After drawing the face, I turned my attention to the hair part of face. I created the shape of the hair by drawing small lines in different directions and draw carefully. Gradually the upper part of the head also started to become clear and the figure of the character started to look more prominent than before.

Step Three — Highlight the face

In this step I added details for the eyes, eyebrows, nose and lips. I had to be more careful while creating these parts of the face because even a small change can change the expression of the whole face.

Step Four — Soft Shading

Now I added light shading to different parts of the face. Use light and slightly darker strokes and shades of the pencil on the cheeks, neck, near the hairline and on the sides of all the face. This added some depth and texture to the face and made the image feel clearer and realistic.

Step Five — The Final Touch

Finally I went through the whole drawing again and improved a few lines where needed. After adding the final details on the hair, eyes, neck and clothing, my pencil portrait is complete.

My main motivation when creating this drawing was to gradually transform a simple sketch into a complete picture. I always love how a few light pencil lines can turn into a beautiful face with time and effort. Each step reminds me of the importance of patience, focus and consistent practice. Drawing is not only a hobby for me but also a beautiful medium to express my creative thinking and feelings on paper.
