SCS32-W5 | Real-Life Problem Solving Challenge: Study Techniques
Hello steemians, Today I will be sharing with you all the effective methods I use to study, stay focused and prevent time wasting.

01 What study technique do you often use, and how effective is it? |
|---|
There are many study techniques that I have been using for a long time, but three have proven to be more effective. I utilize my summary notes to study effectively. Whenever I am done studying a topic I go to my summary notebook to rewrite the most important points from my own perspective. The good I have noticed this method does for me is help in strengthening my understanding and allows me to easily review a huge amount of information in a little time.

The other technique I use to study is my study timetable and also setting some goals for each session, I do this using Canva. What I do here is to look for my Canva-created timetable and then write my daily progress for easy tracking. This is one of the methods I like the most because it helps me study organized, avoid procrastination, and also helps me stay committed to all the subjects I have to study for the day before examinations. It has helped me to manage time effectively and stay consistent.

For this technique, I first of all make use of active recall, rather than continuously reading over and over again I just close my notebook and try to remember the key points from what I had just read. I also practice this recall by writing questions on a sheet of paper and then testing myself to see how far I have gone. This method enables me to identify what I have understood and what I need to concentrate on. It has been one of the helping hands in examinations and for long-lasting memory.
02 What is the biggest distraction that affects your studies, and how do you control it? |
|---|
One of the biggest distractions that affects me during study time is the excessive use of social media on my phone. This happened whenever I pick up my phone to check for available notifications or messages and suddenly I find myself endlessly scrolling through, posts, videos, and sometimes I begin to chat with people for a long time. This then causes time meant for study to be wasted and makes concentration on important topics difficult for me. This often makes me spend more time reading but at the end accomplishing nothing because of my divided attention.
Another challenge that we also face is a noisy environment. Whenever I am reading and I hear conversations, loud and noisy from TV's and MP3s. I find it hard to stay focused and easily remember all I have read. Even when I am determined to keep going my mind still moves to the distractions around me. From these distractions, I got to learn that being able to control them is necessary just as building a great study plan.
**Methods I Use to Control These Distractions**I make sure that I put my phone on silent mode or sometimes turn on "Do Not Disturb" while I am studying to be focused.
I go to a quiet place where there are few interruptions.
I make sure to create and fulfill my study timetable consistently for quicker outcomes.
I also make sure that I keep some time to check social media instead of randomly using my phone.
I also make sure that I don't overwork my brain by taking short breaks to refresh my mind while reading for examinations to prevent losing focus.
03 What is one good habit that helps you improve your academic performance? |
|---|
One good habit that I practice which improves my academic performance is reviewing what I learned on the same day. It's been more helpful than just waiting until examinations are around the corner, I spend some minutes every evening reviewing my notes, highlighting important points in my summary notebook, and also identifying areas where I missed out.
I have noticed that this routine has made studying easier because I am always able to keep up with my main subjects rather than trying to get them all at the same time. It has also been helpful in remembering concepts and facts for a long period of time also making classroom discussions with my teachers easier and more flexible. Although I had to be disciplined to do this, with consistency it becomes part of your habits or hobby to improve your performance widely.
04 Explain any digital tools, apps, or resources that you commonly use for study? |
|---|
One of the digital tools that I like to make use of while studying is Google Keep. It assists me in organizing my notes, creating checklists, and saving valuable ideas whenever they pop up. I am very pleased with using the application because I can quickly write down key points from my lectures or textbooks and then access them on my phone.

Another application that I make use of in studying is YouTube. Whenever I am studying a topic that's over my head I usually search for educational videos or sometimes search for "poseknowsbio" to watch videos particularly on biology because of how good the tutor is. I must say that visual demonstrations and step-by-step explanations help me to tackle complex concepts while reading.

These tools have become a really important part of my learning routine. Google Keep enables me to remain organized and manage information better, while YouTube provides me with different educational guides at any time. Together they make studying for me more convenient especially when I choose to use my phone for studies.
05 What advice would you give to students who struggle with anxiety and depression during their studies? |
|---|
Students who are battling with anxiety and depression while studying could sometimes experience divided focus, inconsistent performance, and low motivation. The goal is not to continue pushing hard with a clear path, but to create a system that helps support both mental stability and effective learning.
Create a fixed daily rhythm: You are to maintain a consistent pattern for waking up, studying, eating meals, and cooling off. By having a stable routine you can reduce mental issues and help the brain to conserve energy to learn rather than constantly adjusting.
Use active learning methods: you are to stay focused on techniques like self-testing, summarizing from memory, and solving examples. These methods can help in easier recalling of facts.
Control your study environment: Study in a quiet, clean, and distraction-free arena. Also make sure to remove social media triggers, unimportant notifications, and anything that could divide focus so that you can concentrate solely on the task at hand.
Seek structured professional support: If academic stress or emotional strain continues over time, ensure to engage with tutors, academic advisors, and mental health professionals. This will provide you with clarity, experience strategies, and accountability that can improve academic performance.
Strengthen emotional regulation: Whenever you feel overwhelmed pause reset yourself just by taking deep breaths, simple focus, and embarking on short walks. It will help reduce mental pressure and restore concentration without abandoning your studies.
