NicSummer on a Plate: Ripe Mangoes, Pistachios & Cashews

There's something deeply satisfying about a simple summer snack, and this plate has it all.

In the metal bowl sit two perfectly peeled mangoes. Their golden-orange flesh glows in the afternoon light. No seeds, no skin, just pure, juicy sweetness ready to eat. In South Asia, we call mango the "King of Fruits" for a reason. When it's ripe like this, you don't need anything else. The aroma alone takes you back to childhood summers, sitting on the floor, eating with your hands and letting the juice run down your chin.

Next to it, on a small floral plate, are two kinds of dry fruits: pistachios and cashews. The pistachios are light brown with cracked shells, salty and nutty. The cashews are creamy white, soft and buttery. Together they give you that perfect crunch and richness that balances the mango's sweetness.

This is what I love about summer eating in Peshawar. It's not complicated. It's seasonal, fresh, and made to be shared. A woven mat underneath, a simple steel bowl, a floral ceramic plate passed down from home. Nothing fancy, but it feels like abundance.
Why I paired them together:<<<
Mango gives you instant energy, vitamin A and C, and that bright summer flavor. Nuts like cashews and pistachios add healthy fats, protein, and minerals. So you get a snack that's both a treat and nourishing. It keeps you full during hot afternoons when you don't want a heavy meal.

For me, food is memory. This picture is not just about fruit and nuts. It's about slowing down, sitting in natural light, and enjoying small things before they're gone. Because mango season doesn't last forever.

What's your favorite summer fruit + nut combo?
