Crispy Fritters and Fresh Chickpea Chaat for Aftari
Ramadan is a very special time and making food for Aftari is always a joy. Today I decided to prepare a delicious spread for my family to break their fast. I made crispy fritters and a fresh chickpea chaat. These two dishes are classic favorites during Ramadan because they are filling and full of flavor.
Ingredients for Fritters
Preparation for the fritters requires these specific items.
● Gram flour ➔ 2 cups
● Salt ➔ 1 teaspoon
● Red chili powder ➔ 1 teaspoon
● Turmeric ➔ 1/2 teaspoon
● Baking soda ➔ 1 pinch
● Chopped onion ➔ 2 medium
● Green chili ➔ 3 pieces
● Fresh coriander ➔ 1 small bunch
● Water ➔ as needed
● Oil ➔ for frying

Method for Fritters
The preparation started an hour before Aftari to ensure everything was hot. I took a large bowl and added the gram flour along with salt and red chili powder. I also added turmeric for a nice color and a pinch of baking soda for crunch. Then I mixed in the chopped onions and green chilies with fresh coriander.
I added water slowly to make a thick batter that sticks to the onions. I heated the oil in a deep pan until it was very hot. I carefully dropped small portions of the batter into the oil. I fried them until they turned a beautiful golden brown. The smell of fresh fritters always makes the Aftari table feel complete.
Ingredients for Chickpea Chaat
These are the fresh ingredients I used for the chaat.
● Boiled chickpeas ➔ 2 cups
● Chopped onion ➔ 1 large
● Tomato ➔ 2 medium
● Cucumber ➔ 1 cup
● Boiled potatoes ➔ 2 medium
● Green chili ➔ 2 pieces
● Fresh coriander ➔ for garnish
● Salt ➔ to taste
● Chaat masala ➔ 2 teaspoons
● Lemon juice ➔ 2 tablespoons
Method for Chickpea Chaat
I boiled the chickpeas and potatoes earlier in the day to save time. I cut the potatoes into small cubes and put them in a big mixing bowl. Then I added the boiled chickpeas with chopped onions and fresh tomatoes. I also added cucumbers to make it refreshing after a long day of fasting.
To give it a spicy kick I sprinkled salt and plenty of chaat masala over the top. I squeezed fresh lemon juice to make it tangy and delicious. I mixed everything well so all the spices were evenly distributed. Finally I garnished the bowl with fresh coriander to make it look beautiful for the table.
Conclusion
The crispy fritters and the spicy chickpea chaat were perfect for our Aftari. These homemade dishes are much better than buying fried food from the market because they are clean and healthy. My family was very happy to break their fast with such a tasty meal. Serving homemade food to your loved ones during Ramadan is a great feeling.
