💡 Saving Electricity at Home 💡

Electricity is one of the most essential needs of our lives, powering everything from the lights in our houses to the very smartphone which I'm using to write this post.

Saving electricity not only helps us but also the future generations to follow. When we switch off the appliances that we don't use, that's one less power need for the country.

01. What are two electrical appliances in your home that use a lot of electricity? Explain with original pictures.
01. Refrigerator

The refrigerator is one of the most electricity consuming appliances in the house. Because it runs 24/7 to keep our food fresh and not rot, it consumes most of the electricity in our house.

02. Washing Machine

As the washing machine is used most of the week it results in using so much electricity. Not only washing but also when drying the clothes it uses a lot of electricity .

02. What two methods do you use to reduce electricity consumption? Show at least one practical method with a selfie.

To reduce the electricity usage in our house we have applied several methods, here are two of them.

Method 01

Turning off the unnecessary appliances once I'm done using them is one of the easiest and mst efficient way to save electricity. I also encourage my other family members to do the same.

Me with the rice cooker hah

Method 02

The best way we save electricity is by using solar panels. I know what you're thinking, solar panels are expensive to install. But here's the thing. We took out a loan to install these panels, and after using our portion of the electricity, we sell the rest back to the national grid. That way, the solar panels themselves pay off the monthly loan installments to the bank.

I had to climb onto the roof to take this video haha

03. Have the two methods you use to reduce electricity consumption resulted in a reduction in your electricity bill or not? Explain

Yes, these to methods have helped me save electricity a lot. At the same time after the monthly installment for the solar panels are paid off, we also get a passive income stream from it.As the electricity bill is super high these days, this is the best method we can use to save electricity.

You might not know but there was a huge cyclone in last November in Sri Lanka(my country) which destroyed the power lines so people couldnt call their loved ones or charge their phone. Because we had the solar panels we were able to help them charge their phones and torches which helped their daily work.

04. What is the easiest habit for you to save electricity?

The easiest habit to save electricity is just turning off the appliances once youre done using them. You dont need to have lights turned on during the day, just open your windows thats it.

05. What advice would you give to others to save electricity so that they can reduce their electricity bill and save money?

Even though the electricity prices are different from country to country there are several ways you can save electricity.

  • Use the appliances to do all your work at once:-
For example when you are using the washing machine, wash all the clothes at once so that others dont have to turn it on again to wash their clothes.
  • Use LED bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs:-
LED light bulbs us much less electricity than those old incandescent bulbs.

Finally in conclusion, I would like to say save electricity not only for us but also for the next generations. The switch you turn off today may help someone else turn a switch on in the future.

That sums it up and I'd like to invite @sammy1109, @pandora2010 and @karobiamin71 to participate in this challenge.

Thank you so much 🫡!

Hola!!
Muchas Bendiciones.. 🙏🏻
