The word social media just as the name implies is one of the major products of globalization and modernization. Social media is a program that links people from different parts of the world together to share information both the information that may affect them positively and negatively.

Social media is open to everyone irrespective of tribe,age,gender,academic qualifications.In other words, nothing is hidden under the sun,every publication, advertisment and message can be posted on it. The youth plays the most vital role in use of social media,the impact of social media both positive and negative on rest on the youths to know how they use the information gotten from the social media.

I will be listing the positive and negative impact of social media on the youths

E-learning:

Students who are determined and focused in life use the information they gather from internet (social media) to improve and develop their academic life. They can use the social media to solve assignment and projects.

E-library:

The use of social media can help students to access libraries in different parts of the world irrespective of their current location.Not minding if they have libraries in their environment,they can still develope themselves through the internet (social media).

Sharing of Information:

There are so many groups opened by students where they share information example Whatsapp,student can share assignment question and solve then,share the solution on the Whatsapp platform.

Widen their horizon beyond their environment:

Through the use of the social media,students can learn so many things that they were not taught in class,by interacting with students from different parts of the world.

Improves their communicating skills:

The use of social media hole os students in their spoken English and also how they communicate with their fellow human beings. It helps them to develop their communicating skill.

THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE YOUTHS

• Pornography.
• loss of dependence on their ability.
• Encourages examination malpractice.
• loss of man power.
• increase in crime rate.

Pornography:

This is the illicit exposure of human body through the use of social media.The rate at which pornography is increasing in the social media is quite alarming. Some sites in the internet always make room for pornographic pictures because they believe it attracts more viewers and fans to their site,the increase in Pornography had also led to the increase in sexual immorality in the society.

Loss of dependence on their ability:

The Invention of social media has made so many people lazy and stupid. A simple topic that demands or involves thinking,they will rather go to the internet and get it done for them.The natural gift of reasoning and thinking deep has been eroded by the invention of social media,making God who gave us brain to look like a fool,which is not supposed to be.

Loss of man power:

In the beginning God created everything and placed man in charge of it all,but the reverse is the case in today's world.Man has lost control of everything.The world is now a global village by the help is so called social media,anything can be within a twinkle of an eye,making the environment to lose its originality.

Increase in crime rate:

So many wrongs are going on in the society.So many illicit and illegal activities are carried out by the use of the internet.

CONCLUSION.

It all depends solely on you as an individual,you have to decide whether it controls you or you control it. Self-control is very essential in everything one is doing online,if self-control is not applied in all you do in life,then you will live a life of indiscipline.Never let any social network take away your sense of reasoning,that any day you do not go online,you will feel incomplete and empty.
