One Picture And One Story Week #56

Esse is a boy of 13 years in SS 1, growing up he attended the Christ The King Nursery and Primary school, he started schooling at a year and six months and this was due to the fact that there was no maid to look after him. Starting school was the only option as his parents were big on their career and needed to be effective at work.

It was an amazing experience in the nursery section until he got to the primary section where the real learning was. He was so dull and usually came last position in class, his parents were really sad. Teachers complained bitterly on his inability to cope in class and most blamed it on the parents for rushing him to school as he was always the smallest in the class.

This made Esse shy and timid as everyone mocked him in school, it got his parents worried and they began thinking he has a problem. They spent so much on holiday lessons and extra classes but the results wasn't there as his results never changed. His parents didn't give up but still tired other learning options, like his siblings teaching him. His siblings tried but to no avail as he was not just picking up.

One day his mom went to pick him with his other siblings who were pupils in the school. On reaching the class the teacher recognized the siblings as he was the one who taught them Basic Science, the teacher was so excited seeing his best pupil. After chatting he asked who the siblings came to pick and the pointed Esse sitting at the end of the class so dull. The teacher in shock asked how come they were siblings as none was as dull as Esse is. He even went further to ask the mom if they were from the same father and the mom replied.

On getting home, the mom flogged Esse for being such an embarrassing child as she was so ashamed when the teacher questioned his paternity. Esse struggled to graduate from Primary school. He failed the common entrance to his dream school and was lucky to be called for a retake examination, which he passed with a poor pass. He was excited and so were the parents. A great twist Happened along the line.

Esse was nine when he got admission into the secondary school, his parents didn't relent in enrolling him for extra lessons, and he was willing to make a difference being that he felt he was an embarrassment to his parents and they were always ashamed of his poor grades. Esse studied day and night like his life depended in it. Some nights he studied till 12 am and still wakes up by 5am in order to join the bus which flies his area by 6 am.

His parents never really expected much from him and were always praying that he should just pass so he doesn't repeat. Esse never stopped studying, his flare for education increased and his passion for excellence experienced an upward trajectory. He did his best in assignment, class work and test. He had a very amazing teacher and he made new friends which helped and encouraged him to do better.

It was the end of the term and his parents were to go and get his results. The dad said he won't go, that he doesn't want to be embarrassed. The mom summoned courage and went to get it. On getting to the school she moved to his class and met the teacher. The teacher said Esse has been so good in class, the mom wasn't really excited as she didn't expect much from him.

After she got the results, she sat down to take a look at it and she realized that Esse came 2nd with an average of 85.70, the mom was so emotional as she had never expected it. She thanked the teacher and drove home. On getting home she met Esse anxiously waiting for her, she drove in and broke the news to him, Esse wasn't excited as he never believed.

On seeing the results, he screamed and cried as it was the first time he had taken a single digit position, he was so excited and thanked his mom for not giving up on him entirely. The dad returned and heard the news and was so happy. The threw a mini party to celebrate Esse because the child the thought was the dumbest was becoming bright. Esse got a new phone as a gift from his parents and he was excited.

From then till now, he has maintained the 1st position and has won several awards, he even represented the school in a competition and won. Esse from the dullest child is the brightest child in school and everyone wants to associate with him.

This is to encourage us that no one is a failure, it's just a matter of time and the world will get to hear us. Esse is my kid bro and I'm so proud of him because I personally didn't believe he will amount to something so good, but his love for education is on another level. I really admire his passion, always studying at night and everything. I later thought it was age factor that hindered him from assimilating fast then because he was so dull. I don't know how best to celebrate him, so I decided to write his story to encourage someone out there.
