One Picture One Story

The blue sky was railroaded with little flags dancing asoft in the wind. The voices of the children mixed with the sound of feet running at the green and yellow layers of the school building. The warmth of the sun motivated us all there.

Students clad in blue sport-wear gathered around on the field, as if engaged in a game of soccer. They chased the ball, bright for them to laugh at and cheer on. Some dribbled with assurance, others tried to chase it away. Although they sometimes fell down or lost the ball, they always got up again with a smile, as if even these little failures were an occasion for more excitement in the game.

Bordering the field are pots of pink and white bougainvillea, neatly arranged. Their glowing flowers seemed to affirm the morning's happiness. The velvety green leaves against the stark school building colors created a peaceful and tranquil setting. The tall coconut trees in the back ground of the school also gave in to the cold natural essence.

Within earshot, the sports teacher was standing, watching the piece and sometimes voicing suggestions. The boy was pleased to see the students working so well together and with so much enthusiasm. Winning wasn’t, in his mind, everything, but the way the children learned discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork through a simple game.
